Quote of the Week

"What do I want to take home from my summer vacation? Time. The wonderful luxury of being at rest. The days when you shut down the mental machinery that keeps life on track and let life simply wander. The days when you stop planning, analyzing, thinking and just are. Summer is my period of grace."
- Ellen Goodman

Come visit first, stay in a travelers hostel if you want to meet people, doesn't matter your age...see where you want to live, then check the local paper to find rental listings... Continue Reading & Comment | Share Your Experiences.

Moving to OsloMoving to Oslo, Norway

Make sure you choose a reputable company to move your stuff overseas who know how to handle all of the documents- the customs people here hold shipments for crazy amounts of time. Choose a neighborhood close to public transport. It is pricier but well worth not having to walk 20 minutes very 2 in the winter. Be open minded about flats. I have yet to see a place with more than 1 bath and double vanities don't exist. The fridges are small- overall things are smaller and it's important not to let it bother you! Having a Baby in San JoseHaving a Baby in San Jose, Costa Rica
By ExpatExchange Member

I recently gave birth to a beautiful baby boy here is San Jose, Costa Rica. I couldn't have had a better experience. I have a 3 year old daughter who was born in the states and with her I had to have a C-section. I really wanted to try and have a natural birth with my son, and most doctors will not even discuss that option with you after you have had a C-section. My doctor here at least let me give it a try, it did not happen but he was willing. I had my son at Clinical Biblica in downtown San Jose. After a C-section I left the hospital the very next day and my healing only took 2 weeks and I was back in the gym. It was amazing!! With my daughter it was a horrible recovery and it took weeks. The care I received from everyone was the best. I do not speak Spanish yet, but they were patient with me, and everything went better than I could have hoped for. The Wall Street Journal - Interview Opportunity

The Wall Street Journal is interested in talking with a few executive expat couples. Did you or your spouse accept an international assignment and the "trailing" spouse also found executive level employment abroad? Or, did the "trailing" spouse take time off, telecommute, commute back and forth, pursue another degree, start a business, etc...? If you and your spouse are both executives and you are interested in talking "on the record" about your current or recent expat assignments (within the last 2-3 years), please contact us at connect@expatexchange.com.

How Many Expats Have Been to 42 Countries?
View Details
We've received incredible insight over the years from the experienced expats that have shared their knowledge on ExpatExchange. Many of these expats have lived in a handful of countries and are well respected by those that are considering a move abroad or those that have only lived overseas for a short period of time.

Even these experienced expats pale in comparison to Heidi, who has written about her LONG expat journey on Telegraph.co.uk:

Travel well and truly forced its way into my bloodstream and I have continued to incorporate this transient lifestyle into my adulthood. Since leaving home, I have lived as an expat in America, Canada, Thailand, India and New Zealand, being anything from a secretary to an orphanage volunteer. I have been to more than 42 countries (and counting) and never stayed anywhere for more than four years.

Everyone else just seems to be a rookie compared to Heidi, don't they?
