How long have you lived there?

10 Months, but visited over the last 3-4 years

What activities, clubs and organizations would you recommend to newcomers to help them meet others?

There are quite a few clubs now that bring together expats and Koreans. Both give the other what they want most: for expats it's comraderie and a chance to see the sights of Korea/Seoul and learn a little bit about Korean people, culture, language and food; for the Koreans it's much the same...but with an emphasis on friendship and language. Some I've found, but could not really take full advantage of, are: www.seoulclub.org (a language/events club), www.adventurekorea.com (an event/language club) and www.ccck.org (Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Korea). Bar-hopping in Itaewon (especially during a Rugby or Football/Soccer game) is sure to turn up many, many expats from all over the globe.

For those who prefer more Godly gatherings there is the (reputed) largest church in the world in Yeoido, where I live, that has a congregation of something like 700,000 as of a couple of years ago--traffic is pretty brutal on Sunday as many are bussed in for the SIX packed services throughout the day. Deciding Where to Live in Your New Country
View Full Article
By Isabel Reis,
Triplicado Portugal Relocation

When beginning a home search in an unfamiliar city or country do not have preconceived ideas of where you want to live before you have had a thorough look at the areas where suitable housing is to be found. Once having undertaken the preliminary search investigate the local traffic situation, commuting time, availability of housing, proximity to schools, shops, etc... And, listen to the advice of people already living in the area -- be open to their suggestions.

You may arrive with the idea that you would like to be a five minute walk from your office. However, this is often not possible if you prefer a quiet location with the availability of a large garden and your office is located in a city center. It would be a good idea to remain open to the possibility of a short commute to ensure you are happy at home. Listen to local advice; what may appear to be a long trip may not be once you learn all of the short-cuts and local roads. (Read More)

Living Overseas
International Schools in Accra, Ghana

Q: Can anyone give me some first-hand information about international schools in Accra? We will be moving from the U.S. this summer for a 2-year posting and are considering enrolling our 15-year old in either Lincoln Community School or Ghana International School. We like LCS for it's IB program, but it sounds as if many expats prefer GIS. Any info. would be appreciated. Thanks.

Is AED 24,000/monthly good money in Dubai?

Q: My husband is being offered a position in engineering/construction in Dubai. His package includes AED 24,000 monthly. Can this be considered good money and can we save from it once we pay for living - we are a family of 4, my husband myself and two kids -- 4 and 1 years old. Would appreciate any information on the above. Actually we live in Toronto and we may move in Dubai in summer of this year. Thanks

Can I trust Property Management Agencies?

Q: Hi all, I am currently looking at buying a second property as a buy-to-let investment. My target market will be short-term holiday rentals, and I am planning on hiring the services of a property rental management company. However a few friends have warned me about untrustworthy agencies that rent out properties without declaring the income to the property owner. I don't want to fall victim to this scam. Has anybody had this type of experience? Is this a justified concern? Can you recommend any trustworthy agencies? Thanks, Andy
