Parent's Review of
American School of Brasilia
What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)
American School of Brasilia
In what town or city is this school located?
Brasilia
How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)
American/Brazilian
What grade levels are represented at this school?
K3-12
How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)
Special buses for US embassy kids, other buses for the rest, most international parents drive their children and many Brazilian families use drivers.
How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?
Improving but much of it is superficial, and doesnt carry through to art materials, books, sports facilities etc.
What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home
country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?
The school caters well for the needs of American families who have board members pushing for their children to get special help, advancement etc. Brazilian families have an increasing voice since they make up most of the school population, but children from other countries dont benefit as much. The school needs better long term teachers, the fast turnover of teachers must be one of the main reason of poor academic standards.
How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?
The school tries hard to organise social activities for parents and pupils. There would be great benefits for a better blend and social interaction betweem Brasilians and international families.. but parent involcment is needed for this.
What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?
Think again if you have children over 8. Its the best school in Brasilia if you are an international family but this doesnt give it a good school status.
