Name three things that you wish you had brought and three you wish you had left at home.

What advice would you give someone preparing to move to your area about the actual move, choosing a neighborhood and finding a home?
Bring as little as you need to, because moving is expensive. And you can get most things here. All the appliances work the same, etc. I would suggest renting for a few months while you look for a home, even though its a hassle to move. But that way you get to know the neighborhoods a little and will make a wiser choice. We love where we live but we just got lucky.
What type of housing do you live in? Is this typical for most expats in your area?
A renovated colonial stone house, about 100 years old. And it's very typical of the expats around here.
How did you choose your neighborhood and find your home or apartment?
We wanted to be in the city, near the center. And we wanted a home that was old and renovated. We found lots of homes to choose from on www.jensyucatan.com and chose from one of those.
Are your housing costs higher or lower than they were in your home country? What is the average cost of housing there?
Much lower. Average price of a home to buy outright is $100K USD
