This Public Announcement advises Americans of the U.S. Embassy Baghdad's travel restriction on using commercial airlines departing Baghdad International Airport (BIAP). This Public Announcement supplements the Travel Warning of December 29, 2005, and expires on June 14, 2006.
On March 12, 2006, the U.S. Embassy Baghdad issued the following warden message: "As the result of a recent security incident at the Baghdad International Airport (BIAP), the U.S. Embassy is prohibiting outgoing travel by all U.S. government employees on commercial airlines departing BIAP until further notice. The Embassy encourages all private Americans in Iraq to register their presence in Iraq at https://travel/registration.state.gov/ibrs/. The current Travel Warning for Iraq and the Consular Information Sheet for Iraq can be found at http.travel.state.gov.
Travelers should review the Travel Warning on Iraq regarding the dangers of the use of civilian aircraft and road travel within Iraq. The public service hours are: Sunday-Thursday 0900-1130 and 1300-1530 (closed Wednesday afternoons).
