Anti-globalization demonstrations are scheduled to occur in Luxembourg City on Saturday, October 6. Demonstrations are scheduled to take place from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. throughout the city center. Americans in Luxembourg should avoid sites of demonstrations whenever possible, bearing in mind that anti-globalization demonstrations in other European cities have sometimes turned violent. Luxembourg police are taking steps to ensure public safety during the demonstrations.

Beginning Monday October 8, the European Union will begin its series of ministerial meetings in Luxembourg City, which will continue throughout the month of October 2001. In light of recent events in the United States, Americans traveling and residing abroad should monitor closely the Department's Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov, particularly the Department's Worldwide Caution, when considering travel abroad.
