Be patient, don't get overwhelmed. Learn the subway system. Use Hopstop. Call 311 for all kinds of advice on city services, directions, complaints. Police is 911. Ask other New Yorkers...everyone loves to give advice! Can be very friendly, especially Brooklyn.
