An Expat Talks about Living in Silver Coast, Portugal

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Silver Coast

How long have you lived there?

15 years (plus)

In terms of religious, racial, economic and cultural diversity, are the people of this city or town diverse? Are they accepting of differences? Describe.

Full of a wide range of expats - generally mostly secular (a - religious); the region is huge and you need to explore what fits your lifestyle. Don't jump in without looking as you need to find the niche that meets your needs. Some parts are very traditional (you might want to learn PT), others much less so. Wide range of house prices.

What are the main industries in this city? What types of career opportunities commonly exist? How do most people find new jobs?

Region has some industries but it is focused on leisure and hospitality as Lisbon or Porto are an hour and more away. Some people do commute by bus to Lisbon (1 hr).

If a friend of yours was thinking of moving to this city or town from far away, what other advice would you give them.

Don't expect to find another version of your part of America. Expect to embrace change and a new lifestyle (I go every morning to my local coffee shop to read my news online).
