Parent's Review of Garden International School in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Garden International School

In what town or city is this school located?

Kuala Lumpur

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

British / International

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Nursery to Year 13

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Most children go to school by private car. There is a good school bus service and the buses have seat belts, video surveillance and bus escorts. The car park gets crowded and particuilarly so at the beginning of each term

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

Excellent facilities. Swimming pool, football field, astro turf courts. Tecahing facilities are very good with probably the best IT facilities in Malaysia. The Facilities for Art, Drama, Music are exceptional.School is large but the various age groups of children are well catered for

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

An excellent programme of transition was provided by the school Principal on our arrival at the school which really helped both my child and family settle into the school and the City. My child should have no difficulty in transferring back to the Uk or to any other international school should we be posted elsewhere.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Parent organisatiion is good. A strong PTF who are very active. The school is very supportive of parents and their needs. Communication is excellent via e-mal and web site.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

I can highly recommend it. It offers a British Curriculum but relevant to life in an international community. When living overseas I want my child to experience a school with a good international feel but with a familiar currioculum. Certainly better than Alice Smith which is far too British. The Principal and his senior staff make every child feel valued and well cared for. The managemenmt do a magnificent job in supporting us as parents. I can recommend the school to any parents as it has a very good set of teachers who are well led. I have seen many improvements since my child has been at the school and this has been orchestrated by the strong leadership of the school. I would recommend it to anyone coming to live in Kuala Lumpur.
