Parent's Review of Mougins School in Cote d'Azur, France

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Mougins School

In what town or city is this school located?

Cote d'Azur

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

International, following British curriculum

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Pre-K to Form 13

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Parents drop off/pick up the children. A few ride the school sponsored bus.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

For 2003-2004, the campus is undergoing a sizeable construction project which will add a new gymnasium and additional classrooms. The library/cafeteria/administration building is fairly recent and quite nice. There's a genuine effort to provide an environment conducive to the educational process.

Many extra-curricular activities are available including, but not limited to, a Homework Club, drama, arts & crafts, gymnastics, rugby, soccer and music lessons from peripatetic music teachers. Some activities are fee-based, but are generally quite reasonable.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

There wasn't much done to transition from American to British curriculum, although there was a great deal of "tolerance" about the different handwriting style and spelling differences between the languages. There isn't a repatriation program that I'm aware of...

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Parents are welcomed to participate in monthly coffee mornings as well as a variety of events scheduled throughout the year - an annual go karting event, wine-tastings, Christmas market, dances, even the annual Talent Show. There is a great Parent-Teacher organization that is always welcoming to newcomers.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

Be sure to stay in touch with your child's teachers and act as their advocate if needed. The headmaster is very approachable as well.
