Parent's Review of Maplebear Preschool in Rabat, Morocco

Submitted by Mommyx2

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Maplebear Preschool

In what town or city is this school located?

Rabat

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

It is a Canadian-based curriculum

What grade levels are represented at this school?

Preschool for ages 2.5-5

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

I'm not sure how most of the other children get to school, but we drive. The school is centrally located between Hay Riad and Agdal.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

The facilities are excellent. Very clean. Maplebear is on the campus of GS Tech, but it is like it's in its own little world. The learning is very child driven and there are numerous toys, pretend toys, books, dress-up clothes, and art supplies to keep the child constantly stimulated. They also have there own roof top play area with sand boxes, water, and such.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Maplebear has been instrumental in the transition of my 2yr. 7 mos. old! Along with allowing her to meet other children (something that is difficult to do here because there are no parks or play structures for kids to meet at) as well as become immersed in French. Both English and French are spoken at the school. There are two rooms in which the children alternate between- when they are in one room they only speak English and in the other only French. Having both languages has made it easier for my child to smoothly transition into the school.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

Because the school is so small (only 3 teachers and 10 students!) there is no parent-teacher organization. But, the teachers are incredibly open with their communication toward the parents and hopefully in time we'll get to know the other parents.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

I highly suggest this school if you are looking for an alternative to the American curriculum. Canadian schools have always been known as excellent schools, and this one does not disappoint! The kids are learning math, science, language, reading, without even knowing it. They think it's just play. It's a very sweet school!
