Parent's Review of Raffles Institute of Higher Education, Batam in Batam - Harbour Bay, Indonesia

Submitted by Imanc

What is the name of your child's school? (Please report on one school per survey.)

Raffles Institute of Higher Education, Batam

In what town or city is this school located?

Batam - Harbour Bay

How would you describe this school? (i.e. American, British, International, Local, etc.)

International

What grade levels are represented at this school?

SMP, grade 10 to degree

How do most children get to school everyday? (bus, train, walk, etc.)

Most of the students are driven to schools.

How would you describe the facilities at this school? What extra-curricular activities are available?

Raffles Batam has the best infrastructure by far that I have come across in Batam. They upkeep their campus well and a very conducive environment for students.

What has this school done to help your child transition from the curriculum in your home country into the curriculum in your new country? Are there programs to prepare your child for repatriation?

Though Raffles Batam only take in students after graduating from SMA/SMK or O level, they have a very good foundation studies programme where students can enter after SMP and skip the 3 long years local SMA/SMK. After passing the 1 year foundation studies, students are eligible to enter into a 2 yr Advanced Diploma + 1 yr Degree. All their certifications were awarded by Raffles Singapore and Raffles Australia for their degree program.

How would you describe the social activities available for parents through this school? Are there parent-teacher organizations?

There are school visit for parent every term (3 months), but most parents simply visited the campus many times a term.

What advice would you give to someone considering enrolling their child in this school?

This is the only International college in Batam. Lecturers are of expat themselves, so only English language is used for lesson delivery. It canl be a challenge if your child is not proficient in English.
