Luxembourg

What are the main industries in this city? What types of career opportunities commonly exist? How do most people find new jobs?

Finance, IT, engineering companies, a little bit of all industries actually. Most people find employment from the administration offices and contacts.

What type of work do you do and how did you find your job?

I now have a relocation service company in Luxembourg because I had such a difficult time figuring out everything on my own.

How did you obtain your work permit? What advice would you have for others about work permits?

I had a really good friend help me and this was great - my advise is to hire a relocation service right away to explain exactly the order of the steps that need to be handled.

Have you taken language and cross-cultural training courses to prepare for your assignment? If so, how have they helped you on the job?

Yes, all of the above. I try to learn as much as I can - every little bit helps.

If you were transferred abroad by your employer, were you guaranteed a job upon repatriation? What type of mentoring programs does your employer offer?

I was offered a job upon returning - but declined and turned local status because Luxembourg grew on me with the time. Then I started Integreat Relocation Services to help out as much as I could and its Great !!

What advice would you offer others about finding jobs and working abroad?

Learn French and / or German - it makes you more marketable - even if it is only conversation level. Be open minded !!!
