An Expat Talks about Living in Tobercurry, Ireland

Jul 30, 2018

A couple who moved from Florida to Ireland for retirement did their research and found that the reality of living in Ireland surpassed their dreams.

What is the name of the city or town that you are reporting on?

Tobercurry

Describe how you "dreamed" expat life would be before you moved overseas. Please provide as much detail as possible.

My dream versus my husband's perceived dream varied at first. We ventured out from our Florida, USA home to retire in Ireland. I knew, with confidence, my advance research was so extensive and seemed totally reliable my dream could be reality. Hubby was/is a worrier so he was more in nightmare mode! We cruised to the UK as my dual US/UK Citizenship in 2016 guaranteed me EU access to our destination, Ireland. Now here over two years I learned of grandparent Irish ancestry and now I have Irish Citizenship too! Reality became even better than my dream and hubby is now a believer!

How has your expat experience met the expectations you dreamed about before you moved abroad?

Our expectations here in Ireland have surpassed anything we could dream. Cost of living is better than we thought and the people are kinder, more generous, more accepting, and warmer than we knew to believe!
