Summary: Here's a primer on how to get your driver's license in Mongolia.

Sometimes when you're new to a country a task like getting your driver's license can make you feel like you're 16 years old again trying to pass your driver's test. Here's an overview of the process of getting your driver's license in Mongolia.

Foreigners who wish to drive in Mongolia must have a valid international driving permit (IDP) along with their valid home country driving license. The IDP must be obtained in the driver's home country before traveling to Mongolia. It's also important to note that the driving rules and regulations in Mongolia may be different from those in the driver's home country, so it's advisable to familiarize oneself with these rules before driving.

There are no specific requirements that differ based on the city, state, or region in Mongolia. However, driving conditions can vary greatly across the country. Urban areas like Ulaanbaatar have more developed infrastructure, while rural areas may have unpaved roads or no roads at all. Therefore, it's recommended to have a 4x4 vehicle if planning to drive outside of the city. Also, it's important to note that Mongolia has a zero-tolerance policy for driving under the influence of alcohol.
