Summary: Plan a day trip or weekend getaway to get some holiday cheer. This article highlights the best places to visit in Dominica for Christmas cheer.

As the festive season approaches, expats and digital nomads in Dominica may be looking for places to soak up the holiday spirit. While Dominica itself offers a unique Caribbean Christmas experience, there are several destinations around the world renowned for their holiday cheer. From traditional Christmas markets to spectacular light displays, these places are sure to fill your December with joy and festivity. Here are some of the best places to visit to get into the holiday spirit.

Strasbourg, France

Strasbourg is known as the "Capital of Christmas," and for good reason. Its Christkindelsmärik, the oldest Christmas market in France, dates back to 1570. The city transforms into a winter wonderland with its half-timbered houses adorned with festive decorations and lights. The market is spread across several squares in the city, selling traditional Alsatian Christmas decorations, handcrafted gifts, and local delicacies. The event usually starts in late November and runs until Christmas Eve.

We Recommend: Don't miss the chance to try the vin chaud (mulled wine) and bredele, traditional Alsatian Christmas cookies that come in various shapes and flavors.

Nuremberg, Germany

The Nuremberg Christkindlesmarkt is one of the most famous Christmas markets in the world. Set in the city's Hauptmarkt square, the market is particularly known for its Nuremberg Lebkuchen, a type of gingerbread, and the Nuremberg Bratwurst. The Christkind, a symbolic gift-giver, opens the market with a traditional prologue. This event typically begins on the Friday before the first Sunday in Advent and continues until December 24th.

We Recommend: Be sure to try the Nuremberg sausages, which are smaller than regular sausages and typically served three in a bun.

Vienna, Austria

Vienna's Christmas markets, or "Christkindlmarkt," are a sight to behold. The Rathausplatz market in front of the City Hall is particularly enchanting, with its grand Christmas tree and booths selling everything from Austrian sweets to handcrafted goods. The market usually starts in mid-November and lasts until Christmas. Vienna is also famous for its classical concerts during the holiday season, adding to the city's festive atmosphere.

We Recommend: Indulge in some Weihnachtspunsch, a traditional Christmas punch, and visit the various stalls for unique hand-painted ornaments.

London's Chelsea Neighborhood

London goes all out for Christmas, and the Chelsea neighborhood is no exception. The stylish district is festooned with elegant Christmas lights, and the shops are full of festive window displays. The Chelsea Christmas Shopping Weekend, typically held in early December, is a great time to find unique gifts while enjoying the holiday ambiance. Don't miss the chance to stroll along the King's Road and take in the festive atmosphere.

We Recommend: Visit the Duke of York Square Christmas market for gourmet treats and the Saatchi Gallery for unique artisan gifts.

Little Italy in NYC

New York City's Little Italy is a vibrant community that celebrates Christmas with gusto. The Feast of the Seven Fishes is an Italian-American tradition that you can partake in at many of the neighborhood's restaurants. Mulberry Street and the surrounding area are adorned with lights and decorations, creating a cozy holiday vibe. The neighborhood's Christmas parade, usually held in early December, is a fun event for all ages.

We Recommend: Enjoy a cannoli or some Italian hot chocolate from one of the local bakeries as you explore the festive streets.

Edinburgh, Scotland

Edinburgh's Christmas is a season-long festive celebration. The city's Christmas markets, including the European Christmas Market in the gardens below the iconic Edinburgh Castle, offer a wide range of gifts and treats. The Scottish Market showcases local produce and crafts. The celebrations usually kick off in late November and last until early January, featuring a host of events like ice skating, Christmas shows, and the famous Hogmanay (New Year's) celebrations.

We Recommend: Try a hot toddy or some Scottish shortbread as you wander through the markets against the backdrop of historic Edinburgh.

Quebec City, Canada

Quebec City is often described as a piece of Europe in North America, and its Christmas celebrations are no exception. The German Christmas Market, inspired by the world's great Christmas markets, offers a magical setting with its wooden kiosks and twinkling lights. The market typically opens in late November and runs until just before Christmas. The city's old-world charm is enhanced by the snow-covered streets and festive decorations.

We Recommend: Sample the maple syrup products and the traditional German glühwein available at the market.

Copenhagen, Denmark

Copenhagen's Christmas spirit is best experienced at the Tivoli Gardens' Christmas market. The historic amusement park is transformed into a winter wonderland with rides, games, and stalls selling Danish Christmas specialties. The market usually starts in mid-November and continues until the end of December. The city is also known for its beautifully decorated streets and the warm Danish concept of "hygge" that permeates the holiday season.

We Recommend: Enjoy a traditional æbleskiver, a Danish pancake ball served with powdered sugar and jam, as you take in the sights and sounds of Tivoli.
