New law changes with respect to obtaining visas requires that you have health insurance to get your visa. First time visa applicants may have a foreign health insurance or a premium colombian health insurance policy. Persons renewing insurance must purchase the state health insurance plan. You must prove you are paying in corresponding to your salary. The pay is calculated on 40% of your income, multiplied by 12%. The government may ask for bank statements for proof your paying in enough money to the health plan. A good resource for visas can be found at www.colombiavisas.com. You can also send me a message on the forum if you need help understanding this new requirement for health insurance. This requirement started in March of 2020 with the Covid-19 health emergency.
