Hi Tim I am American living in Auckland. Some thoughts: NZ is a small country and more English than American. Over the top Americanism is not valued. Honesty and humility is. The tall poppy syndrome does exist but what you have to offer will outweigh this depending on the company you want to work for. Feel free to call me when you are in town. Good luck! Hope you get a chance to travel around while you are here - it''s a beautiful country.

" Thanks for your reply Suzie. I''ve heard that about NZ. I''m visiting in 2 weeks to interview, and have had lots of luck with setting up interviews. I''m excited and nervous by the thought of moving to a foreign country. I''m moving for the adventure and the chance to start an international career. Are you in Auckland? WHy did you move? Do you have any kids? Tim "

" My husband, an Australian, my son (14 months-born here, a Kiwi!) and I live in a suburb of Auckland called Takapuna. We lived in Sydney for 2 years and will likely go back there soon. If you want to call me when you''re in town my number is 488-0959. If you''re staying in Auckland city, the America''s cup village has a great information center you might want to check out and there are ferries right there to take around the harbour. You''ll have to get used to the English spelling! Good luck! "

" Hi Susie, My husband, Tim, is getting very excited about his trip. We have two boys, 6 & 4 years old. Where abouts in the states are you from? We live in Seattle and have heard that New Zealand reminds them of our area. How long have you lived in Auckland? Do you work? If we move, I''ll probably get a job working part time, if that''s possible. Are you or your husband in the techology business? Tim is. Is there a large American expat community there? I hope that your 14 month old is allowing you to get some sleep! Elizabeth "

" I am from Georgia/Florida. My husband is Australian and we lived in Sydney for two years and have been in Auckland almost two years. I do not work, but I''m sure if you want to work you will be able to find a job and have the necessary work permits. We are not in the tech business - my husband is in television and I worked in health care managaement. I don''t really know about the expat community over here but you''ll meet people, no problem. When do you plan on coming? Please let me know if I can be of any more help! "

Susie,
I see that you are originally from Florida/Georgia? I live in Tallahassee - which is BOTH fla and ga.
My family and I are planning an adventure to NZ this coming July.
What has you experience been like there? What is the cost of livng in NZ? Any advice you can give would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Used to live in Tallahassee myself! Cost of living in NZ depends on if your spending US $ - if so it's good! The kiwi dollar is less than .50 US. Housing is not cheap but the food is reasonably priced and of excellent quality. My experience has been that I really like the country - being an expat is hard if you don't know many people. Travelling in NZ I think you will enjoy. I assume you have done your research. We have been most places on the north and south island so if you'd like any specific info let me know. Do you plan to spend much time in Auckland? My family and I will be heading to the US also in July. Cheers. Susan

Susie, How do race relations in the Auckland area compare to Ga/Fl and the 'old' south in general?
