Can anyone tell me about the cost of living for a single person in Bocas?

Just got back from Bocas tonight. Did some pricing and talked with some folks. My estimate is $1200 a month for a single person to live nicely.

I have been living in Bocas Town for a little over 18 Mo. now on my S.S. payment of $1,060.00 per. Mo. I also have a small coffee stand, and I rent two bicycles. My Apt rent is $225.00 per Mo., and I am living very comfortably here.

I actually tried to find your coffee shop in Bocas while I was there. I stayed at the Palma Royale, near to the delicatessen and next door to us were some people from a different Island selling chocolate from their Cacao and lime farm. We bought a ball of real chocolate 100% dark and some lime drinks. Very friendly young people living off the grid on Isla Solarte (I think) and living the hippie lifestyle, farming and doing everything organic and properly. They setup a little booth there on the street. We love to support people like that. We still couldn't find your coffee place. We are going again next month, so give me directions. Cheers. I will definitely look it up next time in Bocas and if your bikes are available for rent, we will rent those too. I think my next trip to Bocas will be 4 of us, so we might need a coupla more bikes. Can you drive to Bluff beach on a bike from your place, or is that too far? We took a taxi a coupla days ago and stopped in at the Botanical Gardens for a tour, on the way. Is there a bus that goes there, such as a bus to Starfish Beach, or only taxi's to Bluff Beach?

Good morning James, No, no buses to Bluff, but it is an easy bike ride. My customers do it all the time. I walked to the end of Bluff beach one day last year! I only have the two bikes, but my next door neighbor, and Landlady has three. And several other people in this area rent bikes, so that will not be a problem. I also just bought a boat. You might be interested in doing a little fishing, or snorkeling. I also have a new speargun. Look forward to seeing you!

Well the spear gun worries me, but we love to boat and snorkel. I like my fish, battered English Style with chips. Should we bring our own snorkel gear or do you have a bunch there? Sometimes we go with JamPan and they have everything, but I realize that you might not be as big an outfit as those folks. Perhaps we will get 4 bikes then and drive to Bluff Beach one day and then the next day, take the bus to StarFish beach. We will do coffee first of course. All the best.........See you on our next trip in May. Cheers. Jim in Boquete

Hello Jim, Took my boat out for my first snorkeling trip today. Cought one lobster, but he only had about a 4 in. tail, so I let im go. Shot at a snapper, but missed. My friend shot a nice angel fish. You need to bring your own snorkel gear. Mas Tarde.

How did u like bocas

I love Bocas as a holiday place. I have stayed in a number of places there and they are all good. Some nicer than others and more expensive, while some were cute and cheaper. I haven't found a bad place there yet. Bocas reminds me a little like Venice Beach in California. Active and things buzzing around all the time, skaters and bicycle people, dogs and pets of all kinds and everyone living the hippy type of lifestyle. Very free and happy go lucky there in the daytime and some basic petty theft that you would expect. Wear money belts and keep a tight hold on your gear, especially your money and your passports and ID. It's the same at Venice beach or in Miami or any place really, where there are lots of vacation people.

It means that I wouldn't live there permanently in Bocas Del Toro. Too hot, muggy and buggy for me on the ocean. Some people just love it however, so it is a personal comment from me. I do love Bocas as a place to visit for a holiday. Going back in May again and just left there.
