I am American, love the idea of living abroad in Zagreb.I only hope with 2,000 USD monthly.I can pay for a decent place in Zagreb for 300 USD,and how much would a medical plan cost a family of 3.Hzzo is the Croatian medical plan. Some people said You need to pay 5000 kuna, then 500 Luna monthly is this correct.

jamesbondic
  6/24/2017 04:41 EST

You can live easily on this amount, not a rich life but life is about quality and this you will find in abundance here, the economy is very poor for croatians here and they earn very little money in comparison to the UK or Germany but that suits me as I live on UK money so its great, The main thing is that the monthly bills are very low here and this makes all the difference, the UK in London cost about $4000 a month to live in an apartment if your from the UK if your black its free !!! Brits get absolutely zero !!! so I voted many years ago with my feet and will not pay tax to a nation that does not look after its own people first, Croatia is full of Croatians and this makes life good, they like the Brits alot so thats another plus, just look outside Zagreb and you will get a deal.

Njuskalo is a good web starting point, I can help, let me know your time table for moving, what are your family ages ?? look forward to hearing from you

I started looking on the site you suggested .thanks again

There are quite a few places to be rented for around 300 euros.I am wondering some seem like they are in buildings for students.

What do you recommend as a quiet area and safe to live.I am 50,wife is 38 and child is 4 1/2 years old.I see things changing so much ,that is why was looking for a city like Zagreb to live.

jamesbondic
  6/25/2017 07:25 EST

OK there are no unsafe places in Croatia certainly compared to where you come from and myself in the UK.

Zagreb or Suburbs would be good like Varazdin, Dugo Selo, Ivanic Grad, Samabor, Bjelovar I would stay away from student areas.

Life is good here Im 57 and wife is 54 our Kids are 32 plus so we have done our bit now its our time, schools are great here, your child would be good in school and learn the language perfect though they dont start till about 6 years old so its a good way to start, when are you thinking of coming here ?

Michael1967
  6/25/2017 22:58 EST

I am avoiding student areas probably to many parties going on.I will try and look at the areas you told me about.I have a car ,is it worth shipping from the USA,there was a port Bremen in Germany to have it shipped into.i wonder what taxes would cost to ship into Croatia.

Might take several months for my journey.what do you pay for heat and electric monthly for a place.

Thanks

jamesbondic
  6/26/2017 06:47 EST

Hi its not worth shipping your car just sell it and buy once here, the transfer costs once here are expensive unfortunately especially in Croatia as I use my UK cars.

The electric and gas are really low costs, we pay for 3 houses about 2500 Kuna a month for everything inc telephone, electric, gas, local taxes for rubbish etc, its very low, thats the great thing here the monthly bills are really low and that make living here exceptional.

Its best to come to somewhere around zagreb and then you can start your life here and then decide, but I would be surprised that anybody would move away from Zagreb as we have everything here and we can visit anywhere in Croatia anytime, the motorways are so good, the total travel time from one end of the country to the other is about 12 hours.

Bringing your car is a years living costs in Croatia so it does not make sense we have great cars here and I think Better than the cars in the US. better quality german built stuff, though I do like your cars and big power

Michael1967

Hi James,

Those costs seem great, I think they are asking me to be on the Hzzo system of health care.I s it best to own a car in Zagreb or is trams and buses accessible all over the city.I wonder what it would cost to buy a used car low mileage in Croatia.

I saw a place for like 300 euros looks like a small house for 85square meters.Have to check places out for a quaint, quiet place.

Everything you said about Croatia sounds good,I have to see a bakery for sweets.

Is there a good used car site for cars in Croatia.
Thanks

jamesbondic
  6/26/2017 10:17 EST

Use Njuskalo website for used everything, tram and public transport is fantastic in Zagreb centre you dont need a car in the centre at all but then you pay more money to live there, but I would always advise living within 30 minutes of the centre and get a car, to enjoy what Croatia has to offer, where are you from in US

I am from new York and it gets worse here by the day.seems like half the people speak English and live off well fare now.i have a pension for 2,000 monthly and just wish to live abroad and be happy.

jamesbondic
  6/26/2017 11:11 EST

I know NY and your lucky if only half speak English in London only 10% speak English !!! its that bad all the worlds scum there robbing our Country, happy to have left there, you will be very comfortable on $2000 a month and can live very well, not rich life but you will eat and drink well and have a great life for you and your family, most people here earn about $850 per month so $2000 is great, come and enjoy the rest of your life in a wonderful country with no crime !! its so good here, it will add years to your life and better than the rat race of big cities., not lots of work here thats paid well but no need to work on $2000 per month but find yourself something to do and enjoy life

Its easy on this money, I dont pay medical as Im EU citizen and its free for us.

We just paid all of our bills today for 3 houses and it was 2600 Kuna for the month, we dont pay rent as we own without mortgage so just add $300 rent on top and thats for 3 places

You can easily live on this money

I wish , I had free medical in Croatia darn.Place seems like paradise too me.i was looking on a few sites for a used car,my only draw back most cars in Croatia are manual correct. I wonder what school charges my daughter would have.sucks being a non EU member, would they ever let a permanent resident buy a home later on .

Thanks

  6/27/2017 02:23 EST

Yes it helps being from EU, Dont even think about private schools as its very expensive and your budget would not cover this, It is more expensive than London for private here.

The normal schools are fantastic and at her age is the best route to learn the language and culture, they are very similar to us, Croats are not like mad Italians or Spanish, they are very westernised and not much different to us Brits, great humour and reliable people.

The state schools are excellent and the level of education is first class, most people here have degrees, Im certain you will be able to buy a house here, our boy (32) is a lawyer and deals with this, there are easy ways to do this via a company simple procedure, are you in a position to buy a house here ? you can still buy at a low price outside Zagreb, forget the coast though its very expensive and Zagreb centre is also expensive.

When are you planning to move ? did you have a date in mind ?

I have lived around the world and its quite easy here to set up living.

We are so close to many other countries too so a great place for Austria, Italy, Hungary, Slovenia being 90 minutes away, a really great location.

What info have you got from the Embassy ?

I thought of the private school, I understand it is too much money.Have been thinking of a place outside of Zagreb and driving in to the city.I have only been doing my home work on moving to Croatia.T trying to establish a budget on what everything will cost me monthly.Do you get snow that much where you live in the winter time.

The coast looks nice ,but too hot for me.I would only visit and take pictures of the coast.Zagreb seems like it has everything.Do your kids live in Croatia right now.

jamesbondic
  6/27/2017 14:09 EST

Today is 36 Deg C and in the winter is Minus 20 Deg C and we get alot of snow but everything works here, my kids do live in Croatia and one is a lawyer and one is a professor of the university all grown up now in their 30s

I can guarantee that $2000 US will support you easily here, you wont have a poor life, it will be great eating and lifestyle.

They also lived in the UK but hate the UK for reasons previously said.

Its a big step moving overseas but I have done all this before and I would not live in the US if you paid me any amount of money, I like a better lifestyle to enhance the quality of life and have great people around me, I could not achieve this in UK but definitely do this here.

I rent a few places I have and t adds to my income and we live on it really as we have no mortgages, we are fully booked all summer with about $800 per week to holiday makers worldwide. Great way to get extra income and we are NOT on the coast so theres are great market here, if you can buy a place and develope it this would provide a great income, and property is cheap inland.

Im an engineer and can do most building anyway inc electrical and gas so very good with the tools and do everything myself.

Michael1967
  6/27/2017 16:00 EST

I know private school to high, I wonder if some of the schools are rates more highly in education, are they bi lingual in schools.Having change of season is great for me and snow sounds nice.
I was a senior credit analyst with ADP for many years had enough, so now have a pension.

You must have a very good life style renting places to tourists every year. Its good your kids have a nice professional jobs.

Looking to move in a few months takes time to get rid of somethings.get plane tickets, make sure medical is set up for my family, have a clean modern place 2 bedroom.have to call embassy of Croatia again on all papers needed.can you get an automatic car in Croatia or all are manual.I bet you have a nice boat ??.

Seems ideal, had too much stress in new York, my whole family has passed away in the past 5 years time and feel unlucky about staying here.Looking for a lifestyle change and see aw beautiful places.

Being an engineer, you are well qualified.I can get your help sometime.

jamesbondic
  6/27/2017 16:23 EST

There are auto and manual cars here in abundance, Lifestyle here is very uncomplicated, you have just got to make the jump and I am certain a Croatia lifestyle will suit all people who have had enough of the rat race as we say.

I found that when you get here enjoy a couple of weeks getting to know the system and how to get round and costs of items where to shop and then work out what your life is going to be and your family life will be, I took my family on a 2 year trip around the world and worked so been there, always wanted to be back in Europe though.

All the schools speak 2 languages and this is essential as Croatian is not a main player, English is number 1 language preference here and 91% speak English, even the TV is in English for the most.

Because your daughter is so you she should watch TV as here school days have not started here as they start at 7, the schools are excellent and even the young kids like English and all learn as they have to learn a language, there is kindergarten here for her age and the places will love having a English speaker in the class as it will help the others as they will also help your daughter, its a great age for her to get into school and learn the language perfectly.

My Daughter is a professor of linguistics and teaches English but speaks many languages perfectly so could offer you advise on how too progress at a good rate, she obviously uses Croatian daily and speaks perfectly, but English is also 100% without an accent.

Let me know your dates and I can arrange fr a place for you on a short term commitment so you have somewhere to come to start your new life.

Life is great so grass with both hands and go forward, its also very short so everyday is so important

Michael1967
  6/27/2017 20:40 EST

Sounds like you are lucky to have a good salary and cost of living is low.Good to know so many people speak English, incase get lost in Zagreb.

May, I ask what town do you live in right now.I always look at news on TV all those Arabs and blacks show up in boats. Its shameful they are changing Europe so much. Take up a hobby might go fishing in Croatia.

Is it advisable to set up a bank account in Croatia.my other hobby plant my own veggies, but if it is cheap enough in market buy there.

I am certain my daughter would like a challenge for new adventure.

jamesbondic
  6/28/2017 03:35 EST

Im in Ivanic Grad just 30 minutes from Zagreb, I love fishing too and have a small old boat but a good one ideal for fishing, great hobby, Most of the Arabs landing in Greece want to go to Germany so we are not affected here , they wouuld like to go to the UK but they have stopped this as there is enough of them there and they cost the UK a fortune, they are all liabilities and not assetts and dont bring any good too the UK or Europe, only want to live like animals that they are, not respecters of women of any age and primitive.

You want to be glad Trumps has banned some of the countries, I wish other leaders had the same balls as him, though he is a fool in many other departments.

Michael1967
  6/28/2017 04:15 EST

It's funny Obama was taking in all the Arabs and blacks, now Trump is throwing out illegals everyday.Obama for 8 years ruinednthis country even more ,his laws never passed in Congress.

I miss Ronald Reagan in my country, he stood up to every.trump just tried to fire everyone.he is good in business, but an ass as President.

I had a question,is one elementary school better then another in Zagreb, would your daughter know that answer better.I am sure where you live must be a nice area.Do you ever go camping

jamesbondic
  6/28/2017 04:41 EST

I agree and for a great Country such as the USA its a shame that your on view for all the world to laugh at currently, its not a good situation and Regan was by far the best for you in my lifetime.

all the school are pretty much the same, its a good question if you were in the UK as this is definitely the fact that one area is very different to another and the fact is dont educate your kids with blacks, Muslims or Arabs as they will hold back our kids abilities and this is a fact, this bunch need to go to Civilisation school to learn how to operate in a modern civil world and forget their own primitive ways, why we have lt them into Europe I will never know, but I can tell you nobody likes them and I mean nobody especially the Germans and the UK inc France, we tolerate them.

Last month they keep running us over with vans and trucks and last week a guy from wales run some of them over to see how they like it, he will be a hero in wales as he would be in Yorkshire where I come from, they dont like it when you get them back and he was proclaimed a terrorist, he is basically pissed off with those bastards doing it to us and the politicians not doing enough but the public will start taking the matter into their own hands.

Here schools are exellent where ever you go as they have the same system ans you can not go to the next year if you dont reach a certain standard and have to work over the summer to reach the grade so you educate all children to a minimum level and the kids here have a great attitude to want to learn which comes from their parents.

The black in the UK are a nightmare they only know how to rob, clean their old BMWs and do drugs and end up in prison !! thats a fact and I have worked as an engineer in schools and they are absolute animals the kids in London Schools, its so different here, civilised and very respectful. an nice position to be in for your daughter, she will get a fabulous education here and learn a wonderful culture of Europe which I think is great.

jamesbondic
  6/28/2017 04:42 EST

And I do go camping lots, all the time when II go to the UK I am camping its great and here,

jamesbondic
  6/28/2017 04:54 EST

GThe areas here are all nice as the people are nice unlike the USA or UK, if you live in a black area god help you as you get the crime and robberies and drugs, here is only Croatians and they are all very civilised and dont even know what a bad area is, there are no "NO GO AREAS IN CROATIA" does not exist and this is why I am here, the UK is different especially London and I know the US is the same too, it will be a nice surprise for you being here not worrying about being robbed or shot, it just does not happen here, you can leave your doors unlocked and windows open even the keys in your car with money on the seat, nobody does anything, this will be alien to you but thats the kind of place the UK was 40 years ago then came the blacks !!! all finished.

I have been robbed 2 times in London and both were black !!!

Both ended up in hospital with serious injuries as I was Special Forces soldier in the UK for 12 years and can defend myself very well, and also from the North of the UK where real men are from and the tough guys, in the South the people are very soft and let the blacks do what they want, they dont come up North as they will be reminded of where they came from and who was the boss ALWAYS.

I am a straight talking guy who is very experienced in life and say my thoughts I dont care about being politically correct, I can see where problems come from in the UK and Europe and I dont like what I see.

If I was voted in as a leader there would be many changes immediately and I would be a hero

This is why I see Trumps stance as OK but his application and delivery is not good and he is a rich boy anyway, its easy when your born rich as money makes money, let the real people manage the country and the rich people are not doing a good job on both sides or the water.

Ask on the streets of the UK and not London they will all say the same as me, kick the bastards out who cause problems, no trails just stick them on a boat and send them away. NEXT DAY Or even the same day would be good, even the children and their families they ill never get on in Europe and I mean ever as they dont mix.

John 8
New International Version (NIV)

At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?” They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, “Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her.” Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

At this, those who heard began to go away one at a time, the older ones first, until only Jesus was left, with the woman still standing there. Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”

“No one, sir,” she said.

“Then neither do I condemn you,” Jesus declared. “Go now and leave your life of sin.”

“Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? Sorry, was out today.what happened some whacking was reciting religious philosophy. There always a nut job with nothing else to do.

But seriously,i have been in touch with Croatian Embassy. They were very helpful on many issues, quite friendly.

Do you think ,I can afford an apartment in your area for 300 euros.I had a question, can you ever buy any items in bulk for food items in Zagreb.

jamesbondic
  6/29/2017 03:44 EST

Yes I can look for an apartment for you, you just need to get here and then ot all starts then, food can be purchased in bluk such as non perishables, its best to find out where the best prices are, even going to Bosnia or Slovenia sometimes as its often cheaper there, what I do with meat is order a full animal and have it butchered for meat as this is half the price of supermarkets, but there great ways to save money and I know them all as my father was a farmer anyway.

I use water from my well so no water charges, all of my power is mainly from solar panels and I use LED lighting so everythong runs at low cost but I have all the modern facilities such as swimming pool and air conditioning here.

alot of people here are small farm gardeners so the vegetables and fruit as really cheap but it is still good to grow your own but this would take a season preparing the ground, Chickens and Eggs are absolutely FRESH FRESH FRESH really nice and the bread is fresh and this is purchased daily, the food is a delight here and you can live really well.

I knew the Embassy would help, its really easy to open a bank account too, totally not complicated, internet is quite good and as I said the TV is mostly in English .

Its just important to get here and relax, get to know the place and enjoy a small holiday then get out of holiday mode to establish your roots for the future, have a look about to see where you like but everywhere is good and you will find the people very friendly.

What is your timescale ?

jamesbondic
  6/29/2017 03:51 EST

I saw the religious crank yesterday, we just laugh at them here and you get so many worshipers in the US yet they then go home clean the gun and shoot somebody, hey for a nation who loves god so much has alot of problems !! you know this, in Europe its not like this at all we just get on with living and its a great continent with so much to offer.

Generally Croatians are Catholic so very peaceful and sensible, no Muslims or Arabs..

I went out for a few beers last night and a really large pizza about 18" in diameter freshly made and it all cost about $5 in total and I had about 4 beers. The cost of eating out is very low costs.

You will be very pleased with the monthly bills as this for me is the best, its always really low in comparrison to anywhere else I have ever lived and I mean really low, you will laugh at the costs.

My water bill last month was $3, local taxes for streets and rubbish was $10 per month, in UK its $350 per month for local council tax and $100 for water, Rent is $3000 per month in London for a apartment

Hello- I am joining the conversation. I am trying to get my duel citizenship and need to write to get the documents from the ministry of interior. I believe I had the info just need to do it. My Question...I have 2 kids 13 & 15 and want to live abroad (specifically in Croatia since all my grandparents are from there) I want to take time away from the US and show my kids another part of the world. Any recommendations for moving there with kids this age for about 6 months to a year? Specifically Zagreb

As your ancestors are from the region is a good thing, this country is not spoilt by all the rubbish immigrants many countries are experiencing and has alot to offer, my children have been educated here and its a great education amongst a race of intelligent people who are keen for knowledge, my kids are doctors and lawyers and have travelled lots but always want to be here, Im happy to help with any information you want and look forward to hearing from you..

Zagreb is the best place in Croatia to live.
