Does Brazil have a national health care system? If so, what are the requirements to get into it as an expat / permanent resident? What about coverage of pre-existing condition, including medications? I am not able to get one of the international health insurance plans due to a pre-existing condition (I have checked).

YES BRASIL does The quality varies with where you are, from poor to really good. Would think the south would have better healthcare, say from SP south. Most northern states are broke.
Believe pre ex condx don't matter.
IS FREE is your are a perm rez or citizen of BR.
You can also BUY private healthcare from various sources like UNIMED etc.
