Can anyone please explain to me where I would get such a certificate, and how do I prove that I'm single? Do I get it in Algeria? If so, where? Do I get it in England? If so, where? I'm a British citizen, in love with an Algerian man, and I want to move to be with him in Algeria. Any help on this subject would be gratefully received, as information on emigrating to Algeria is very sparse. Many thanks in advance.

Not over here it doesn't. Your birth certificate only states about your birth. You don't need a certificate in the UK, to show whether you're single or not, so a certificate like that doesn't exist in this country. I have my divorce decree from my previous marriage, that's it. Also, why would I regret going to live in Algeria?

I am a British woman who married my Algeiran husband in 2006 in Algiers. I used a certificate of no impediment from my nearest registry office to prove I was single. Its basically like having your Banns read in church. IIwas also told I could do a marriage search but that costs a lot more. I believe your decree absloute is equally valid but you would hav to check. I hope that helps :-) As for emigrating to Algeria I went on a visitors visa and then changed the status when I was there by getting a work permit and residency but my hubby and work sorted all of that out so I don t have any details.

Nakshidil1, I beg to differ. You will NOT regret living in Algeria. I am married to an Algerian, was there and wants to be back again soon for good.

I once tried to marry Phillippino, and the embassy demanded she have an interpreter, even tho she is fluent. The interpreter, Phillippino man, demanded bribe. I was indignant, and refused. I left letter with marine at door of ambassador. He never replied, but then he got fired, anyways, probably for some other crime. So before I came to Ukraine, I tried to get that doc from our local sheriff thug office. They not only refused, but laughed at me. I learned more, and was told I don't need that in Ukraine anyways. Not true. The embassy requires it, and I was told that it is only about $50 or so for them to do the paperwork. Some I have talked to said it was a complete nightmare getting it, and of course our owners at the embassy say it is easy. I guess I may find out, if I ever find a cute Ukrainian girl who wants to marry a poor American slave.
