Obtaining a Private Income Visa (Residencia Temporaria – Rentista)

Hello All,

I studied abroad in Argentina a couple years ago. I was there for several months and really enjoyed my stay. Now that I can work remotely, I want to go back for a while, like a year or two, to see different parts and perfect my Spanish. I don’t want to have to rely on staying as a tourist and going to Uruguay every 90 days because I want to travel the whole country.

I think I would qualify for the Residencia Temporaria – Rentista, or private-income visa. I am just confused on a couple details (two, mainly).

My first issue is that I compared the information from Argentina’s immigration page to the Argentine consulate in NYC’s website. The Consulate website indicates a few extra requirements that the Argentina page does not. Specifically, the NYC website says a form FSV and an interview are required, whereas the Argentina page makes no mention of these. I know that if you do the visa process while in Argentina, the police have to come to your home to verify your address, so possibly the form FSV is in lieu of that, for someone who is trying to get their visa while still residing in the US? Does anyone know why Argentina’s immigration webpage and the Argentine consulate webpage would have these differences?

(The specific pages I’m looking at are these: http://www.migraciones.gov.ar/accesible/indexA.php?nomercosur_temporaria and http://cnyor.mrecic.gov.ar/en/node/2256)

My other concern is: “a private income applicant must prove the origin of the funds and their entry into the country through banks or financial institutions authorized by the CENTRAL BANK of ARGENTINA”

How do I know if my bank is authorized by the Central Bank of Argentina? Is there a list somewhere? Do I have to set up a bank account in Argentina? That doesn’t sound like something I can do without already having a visa. Do I have to get my bank statements translated (it’s all numbers anyway)? And my paystubs?

Any advice is appreciated, whether you have the answers or know where to direct me to find out. Thanks in advance.
