Moving to Freeport City

We're moving from Florida, we do know a bit about the ferry. We know the cost of living is higher, and we know the utilities are higher. What should we bring for our residents and what should be left behind? Any good reliable builders? Best place for supplies? What/where/whom to avoid? Best places to buy groceries, alcohol, and gas? What about duties on incoming personal items? Our pets? Mail delivery? We're bringing vehicles, any word on that? Do the locals like us or not so much? What can we do to be good neighbors and friends to the locals?

Hi Texmex

Congratulations on your move. Do you have a place to stay while building and how big is it, that’s going to depend on your personal belongings. Personally I would bring the necessary items such as clothing, documents etc. coming on the ferry, you can purchase a been or more to put the items your bringing with you. Keep in mind they are taxable via bahamas customs. Some items are duty free. You can d/l the app called “Exempt “ to see what is or isn’t taxable and what may be charged duty and the percentage.

As far as building, yes there are quality builders on island. Definite research and due diligence on who makes your final cut is important.

Pets, you have to get a pre registered document completed on your pets.

Alcohol you would probably go primarily to Jimmy’s (close by the Harbour). 700, is another retail liquor store through out the island, and a new wine store called Seagate Wines(at our only indoor mall.

Cars again you may want to use a broker.
Choosing to come here is already regarding you as good people. We are a melting pot of various people, but if you come thinking you are better than anyone, or more importantly racist, you will find it difficult living here. Also participate in various activities the island may have of interest, go to different restaurants, and you will find living here much better with our Sun, sand and Sea and our people. Email me at [email protected] if you need anything else and Welcome.
