Hi all, I understand there are many people with our same idea who would like to rent their condo to vacationers when they are not using it thus there are likely numerous condos within a condominium complex that are for rent at the same time. How does the condo association or rental outfit decide which condo gets rented? Does the prospective renter get to choose the unit? Does the renters association rotate units? Does it work on a quid pro quo scenario where you "tip" the person renting the units out? Thanks and see y'all soon!

We used to rent out our beach bungalow on AC for a minimum of 6 months we used a great property management Co. No money ever came into Belize everything was handled by our agent . Back then , long term owner renters did not need to be registered and we were living out of country , my wife was also a Belizean citizen thro work.

That's cool bobbyvee! We're looking more at using it for short term vacation rental (1-2 weeks at a time) but longer is not out of the question if it makes more sense. I appreciate the input!

Hi. Shorter gets you more money , but registration and taxation . Take your pick !!! or dont and justy keep for you , unless your a prime location , as we were , you face a lot of competition , and maybe no lets at all. Good luck

You will need to check out all the regs about Vacation rentals, In the last five years, a few rules which may always have been on the books and ignored, or maybe some are new, but things have tightened up a lot recently. Seems the GOB realised how many Expats were renting out property and none of the income every entered the Belize economy as rents were being paid from and to US or Canadian bank accounts.

That too , The resorts both new or well established suffer a lot from guests going to unofficial Airbnb's The resorts who are well regulated and taxed for the privileidge of looking after the visitors to Belize. Also skews the statistics for hotel "beds" utilised for the tourism figures.

I hand't thought about that aspect and we definitely don't want to be the "ugly Americans". We're actually wanting to get away from it all and spend our remaining years relaxing. Thanks for all the good insight!

It is becoming such an overcrowded field, the rules and regulations are tightening and the returns are dwindling because of huge projects now being built and an overcrowded market. I wouldn't advise. Send me a PM and I can give you much insight. I have AirBnB properties in the US and sold one that I used to have here because of the overcrowded market.

I rented a property in Belize and had tons of options.
However, if I rent again, here's what I did not like about renting in Belize (this property was not near the beach): 1) Rent was too high 2) Owners unwilling to pay for electricity 3) Owners unwilling to rent short-term i.e. 3 months or less 4) No on-site laundry 5) Owners dogs barked all night.
Next time I will seriously consider Mexico. Belize is actually boring!

I am not sure boring is the word but better places to live than Belize. I vacationed in Belize for many years but when it was time to retire I ended up in Sonora Mexico. Close to the border is good. Free zone is good. MANY more options in Mexico and more stable economy.

I appreciate that input. We're still exploring options, but one of the biggest draws of Belize is the low number of inhabitants and the diving.

Take a look at San Carlos, Sonora. That is where I ended up after looking real hard at the beaches above Merida and had realized Belize was not as good as advertised. I vacationed there off and on for 20+ years and still think it may be the best place to vacation but not to live. IMHO

The word is "comment". I am responding to a post about Belize. I think everyone should know Belize is not the answer to many situations except vacation. I don't believe I will be taking much direction from you triffic!
