Margaret,

My soon to be fiance is from Brazil and would like to move back in a few years, but I'm very fearful. I'm a US citizen and I'm concerned about adjusting to live there. He actually would like to end up in Florianopolis. Can you tell me more about this city and how I would adjust to living there? Is it safe?

Any info would help.

Hello!

Alisa, in spite of being a state capital city, Florianopolis is a small, safe city with a population of approximately 500,000 inhabitants.

Please send me your e-mail address and I will send you information, videos and photos of the place for your appreciation.

It is very easy to adjust to life here. It feels like being on holiday all the time. Increasing numbers of foreigners and people from large Brazilian cities like Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro are moving here in search for security and a rather "laid-back" lifestyle. There is no reason to be fearful.

Florianopolis is a subtropical island-capital-city with over forty sandy beaches, green hills, the most beautiful seas and smaller islands within easy reach around it . There is never a boring day here if you know where to look whether you like outdoor life, watersports, cultural activities, eating out, nightlife, etc.

Will you be retired when you move here? If not, what is your line of work?

Looking forward to getting your e-mail address.

Bye for now,
Margaret Arlington

FORTALEZA is a very fun city for a single guy. Lots of night life.
Not much going on except tourism, some from Europe. Used to have flights from Europe direct (to Natal too). Lots of Dutch visit.
Being so far north and close to the equator, it's hot as HELL all year round, Like being in front of an incinerator even in the shade.
You won't be dressing up past shorts, tshirts and sandals - too hot. Need to be a beach person.
Have not been there for years so don't know if it's safe, would think it's ok.
Buy a dune buggy and go cruising the sand dunes, lots of fun. Offer gringos tours and other options.
Try looking on TRIPADVISOR.COM to see what is going on there.
