Hello there! I'm planning to buy a property in Bulgaria (Varna) and plan to live there. I am mixed singaporean/Australian with a Singaporean passport (A non-Eu of course)
Because I know the Brits can buy property but I'm not so sure about myself.
Any help would be very appreciated :)
Thank you!

Only Bulgarians and EU citizens can buy land. Those from outside the EU and Bulgaria can buy property, but not the land that the property stands on. You can of course buy Bulgarian Nationality but this will cost in the region of £150,000

The other thing you will need to do is get permission to be a long term resident. Singapore is a great country to live in. Why would you wish to leave to a country that is less sophisticated, especially in regards to healthcare? If you are retirement age you had better visit and rent for a period to see if Bulgaria will meet your expectations before you buy anything.

I don't think anyone can answer that yet. Depends on either a bi-lateral Agreement with UK - Bulgaria or what kind of treaty is negotiated with EU on terms of leaving. I doubt UK would be same as EU members anymore. What would be the point of allowing UK to keep perks of a member, yet they would not be. I would guess they would be classified same as any outside EU country. There may not be 'freedom of movement". But we must wait and see what come out of the deal.

You can buy a property but can not buy a land For example condo is not an issue but a house can be a different issue. U.K is still a member of the EU and very likely citizens buying in Bulgaria will be grandfathered. By the way there is a reasonable assumption that the EU as we know is going to hell shortly.

HI Zaynk
Yes you can buy property in Bulgaria. However in order to receive full ownership you have to register a company on which you will be a director. It cost approx. 100 EUR to register a limited one plus approx. 50 EUR monthly for accountancy. The whole property will be held by the company. It is a good option in terms of receiving citizenship and permanent residency and then access to over 140 visa free countries.

At the moment apart form the Government making a total mess of the talks, and costiong the taxpayers even more, they keep saying thay we will still be afforded the same rights when we leave and have properties, however i still might be a prudent move to apply for Bulgarian residency and start the process for a passport as we can still have dual nationality status ....

People already there may be grandfathered in but who knows for those that come after. I can't imagine that British citizens would still keep the same rights if they are not part of the EU. That is just a state of denial.
