From my understanding you will just need to have a Colombian ID. In order to get the idea, you will need a work visa, student visa, marriage visa or resident visa. After you have one of these visas (possibly other type other then tourist) you can apply for a Colombian ID.

It takes 1 hour to apply for the ID and about 1 to 2 months to get the actual card. However you might be able to use your visa to start the Insurance process. After you get your ID you can than choose your healthcare plan.

Standard insurance costs 70 mil pesos per month. If you would like private or premium insurance, than you would have to add that service to your standard and pay an additional monthly fee; usually between 150 and 200 mil pesos per month. So it would be 70 mil + 150 mil = 220 mil pesos per month. Both standard and private have to be with the same company.

There was a previous post about this titled "Healthcare and Health Insurance in Colombia". I put a link to a Google doc with some info. Assessor info is specific to Pereira, but otherwise it should be standard. If you'd like to add any information you find out, please let me know.
