Two tier pricing for EPS

Let's try to clear up the debate about what every one pays for EPS health insurance in Colombia.

There are two pricing structures for EPS coverage.
First is the basic EPS coverage that most of us have and it costs 103,000 month and in my opinion is very good coverage.

The second option is to get a EPS Prepagado Plan which is like a premium insurance plan that is above and beyond the EPS basic plan. It is like exited health care.

For example, the EPS Pregagado might send a doctor to your house if needed.

The Prepagado insurance is based on a percentage of the income you declared when you enter Colombia and you pay 12.5%

So, for an expat earning $1500 monthly from Social Security like me, the EPS Prepagado would cost about 637,500 month.

However, I do not feel the Prepagada is worthwhile. After 10 years here in Colombia I've needed a tooth filled and teeth cleaning and annual physical. So, in my opinion no need to pay an arm and a leg for extended health care coverage.

There are some restrictions on EPS Prepagada extended health care coverage. There are age limitations and there are pre existing condition limitations. Not everyone is eligible, and under certain circumstances they will turn you down.

With the EPS Basic there are no age limitations and no pre existing conditions limitations. Everyone is eligible and they won't turn you down.
