Sorry, not Colombia

Well Colombia, what do you think of that? It does not sound good for your image.

I keep a couple of credit cards issued by foreign banks outside Colombia. Bad timing perhaps, but both came up for renewal last month and I patiently awaited their delivery in Colombia. After a couple of weeks of “nothing” I contacted the banks and found the following:

American Express said it had been sent but agreed the delay was worrying and offered to send a replacement – this time via DHL which was not used for the first card.

HSBC stated the card had NOT been sent as Colombia no longer figured in their list of eligible banks for postal dispatch of credit cards (Apparently too many had previously gone “ astray”). I asked whether they felt there was no need to provide clients with prior notification of such changes, but apparently the line was too scrambled and they were unable to hear my query.

Quite apart from the fact I am presently without credit cards for my overseas transactions, I do find this leaves a stain on Colombia’s reputation, especially as it relates to persons examining residence and business development in Colombia.

How much longer can Colombia hope to cope in the global landscape whilst it has NO national postal distribution system for mail entering the country?
