The newspaper in my area has finally started to publish more detailed numbers on the effect of the virus in Virginia. It's certainly a large enough sample to get a feel for the effect. These are the health numbers, as we have no idea on economic or longer term effects. New York has banned Virginia, as we are around the middle for current outbreak. Virginia has about 8.5 million people, and almost 1 million test done so far, with over 82,000 testing positive. The CDC estimates a 10 fold increase of cases we know of, so if they are correct, about 10% of state has gone through the virus. The death count is 2,037, with over half 80+. and over half those in nursing homes. This list has number of positive test in each age group, and deaths by group. I will not list them all, as you can read the chart if interested. Here is 3 notables however. 0-9 years( Zero deaths), 10-19, (Zero deaths), 20-29, (4 deaths). Based on this data and this paper hates Trump, it would mean for the young the seasonal flu kills more in different age groups. This is just the math, assuming a pro Democrat run state health department is reporting accurate numbers. What makes it important is the sample size. We can say that Colombia is less equip. to manage the healthcare aspects, but I submit the Colombian population has much less preexisting or higher risk conditions.
