Pensioners, a bit of light reading?

Being a retiree I often find myself looking for something to do and I found the following light reading that may interest other “old fossils like myself – The UK/Colombia Tax Treaty:

I am sure many other expat retirees in Colombia have been impatiently awaiting this veritable bible which the UK and Colombian governments have made available to us at Warp Speed, the Signed version of which was dated November 2nd 2016 and which only required 3 years to get ratified and issued with effect 16th December 2019.

The following clause may be of interest to pensioner retirees as the UK/Colombia tax terms regarding pension incomes are probably identical for pensioners from other “Contracting States” as efforts have been made to make them all conform to OECD norms.

Page 21: ARTICLE 17, Pensions 1. Pensions and other similar remuneration paid to a resident of a Contracting State shall be taxable only in that State.

Do not be alarmed, the Treaty is only 35 pages long and purposely contrived for those of us with simple minds (Not me unfortunately).

So your overseas pension will only be taxed in the source Contracting State……well, almost, except for all the exceptions, but I will allow you the pleasure of looking at these yourselves.
