We are starting a thread for expats in Costa Rica to share information and concerns about Coronavirus. If you would like to post an update and let others know what is happening in your area, we encourage you to do so. What type of precautions are being taken at airports? medical facilities? schools? universities? If you are being told by authorities to make any preparations, what are they telling you.
Have you not read that a tiny percent have died from it? That not any differerent than getting the flu? That media hysteria and political ploys are to spread fear? I have seen videos of people in China actually eating LIVE animals and all sorts of strange things. They also make imitation foods that are killing us. Don't buy chicken or eggs from China. I have seen video of making?? what looks like identical to eggs.
Eat healthy. Stop eating processed foods. Practice hygiene. Have read that face masks don't help a bit. I have always believed and noticed years ago that the pieces of "chicken" in Chinese restaurants is NOT chicken. The texture is completely different.
The same precautions and steps to prevent disease and maintain good health. I know I am not the only one who believes or suspects that this coronavirus was created for evil purposes - to destroy people and the economy. Bad things are going to happen in these days. Use wisdom in everything you do.
The residents of the Hatillos in San Jose began their protest about no water at 2 pm Wednesday, blocking traffic in both directions for more than 2 hours. The residents are complaining of lack of water in many cases for more than 24 hours, that the AyA is not complying with the rationing schedules (which began more than a month ago and are carried out every day) and that the situation is already unsustainable. At a time when the Ministry of Health increases preventive measures due to the possible arrival of the coronavirus in the country, the residents of the Hatillos, San Jose, one of the places most affected by water rationing, say they cannot comply with hygiene measures since they never have water. Given the annoyance of the community, Manuel Alvarado, AyA director of the west macrozone, said he cannot work miracles, La Teja reports. “The people what they want is for me to give them water now and only Moses, that instead of parting the waters, make it fall from the sky and fill everyone’s house. Humanly it is not possible at this time, even leaving all San José without water we could,” he said. https://qcostarica.com/aya-official-to-hatillo-neighbors-only-moses-could-bring-them-water/
The Coronavirus is no joke! I'm trying to convince my children not to go to Italy because they both had planned separate trip to Europe to visit several countries being one of them Italy. My son still wants to go. In Portugal the people affected with Coronavirus have all visited Italy ad now one teacher has tested positive and they had to send 130 students home. There are also 2 guys from my husband's hometown that have been on the news who are now in a hospital in Tokyo who were working for a famous cruise line. Pretending that such a serious problem doesn't exist when so many people have already died from it is ridiculous. Actually the infected teacher called one of the health departments about her symptoms and they still told her to go to work. That's why they had to send the students home.
Hospitals such as Mexico, San Juan de Dios, Monsignor Sanabria and Calderón Guardia reported theft of personal care supplies such as toilet paper, liquid soap, hand-drying towels and alcohol in their establishments. www.nacion.com
My 82 year young mother is trying to convince me to forego an upcoming trip to Spain and Morroco due to this virus.
I understand her concern, however I've explained to her, I'm not 70+ years old, I don't have a compromised immune system and am not in poor health - so no way am I cancelling my trip!
I'll wipe down my tray table on the airplane. I already wash my hands several times a day, don't bite my nails or otherwise touch my face. Will simply employ all the common sense approaches to staying healthy during travel that I've done for years.
It's amazing the attention this has generated; the flu is also deadly to this same population and it happens every year. I can't recall any emergency health measures put in place to stop the spread of any strain of influenza.
Obviously--- intelligent people understand Trump is doing a fantastic job and the fake news democrat media mob are very desperate. Evidenced by putting an old guy with obvious dementia/alzheimer signs in the lead.. Even die hard libby Gavin Newsome is telling us how great of a job is being done by Trump. Thank God the silly show the libs put on for 8 years that was also affecting the politics in Costa Rica is over.
ILuvCr, you call stupid or other bad names anyone whose opinion differ from yours. Obviously, your parents didn't teach you to be respectful of others when they don't agree with you or have another opinion and they never taught you or you certainly never learnt not to call others bad names. Maybe doing so makes you feel superior or you are a very unsecured person. Fortunately, the world is not only composed with people like you and there are some who respect other people's opinion. Remember, out of your mouth comes what is in your heart.
Everyone has the choice to believe what they want to, I can be wrong, as anyone can be wrong. I am not going to bash anyone for what they believe.
But according to statistics as stated in thread JustaGirl provided, what I object to is that it has not killed as many as the flu does on an on-going yearly basis, and many get a bad case of the flu from being on a plane. But didn't and doesn't cancel flights. And cause droves of people walking around with masks on.
I read awhile ago that China created the disease on purpose. I have no idea whether that is true or not. But I do know, that when school classes are being cancelled, and businesses closed, and people being isolated, travel being impeded, and also read in Canada that many churches closed - that evil powers are at work to destroy finances and health and morale over all the world.
I also believe the Bible which states that this type of thing will happen. Make fun of me all you wish. When all is said and done, someday we will all know the truth. But I believe a lot more is going on than any of us can imagine. Driven by politics, not just in the US, money, and evil people who enjoy destroying.
Some good news from the airlines - most are now allowing cancellations for flights thru the end of April, with a credit to be used later in 2020. (No longer limited to tickets purchased after March 1.) We had flights purchased in February and planned for late March into early April, but we now plan to cancel, as my wife is 69 years old and has a heart condition.
We hope to be able to fly later in the year to visit family in Colorado, if the virus is under better control. I was also going to attend a conference in Chicago, but it has now been cancelled.
CR... announcement made during the Friday afternoon press conference is the decision to close 344 schools for 14 days starting on Monday: 253 of the schools for lack of water and 91 in the areas of virus influence under the order of the Ministry of Health.
My son just told us that he may have to postpone his trip here scheduled for April. In the Canadian Province where he lives (British Columbia) as well as in Alberta and Quebec, the Provincial Governments are asking people coming back from other countries to go on a 14 day quarantine. My daughter is flying back to Toronto (Ontario) Tomorrow and she is hoping that they won't require the same. Someone who is our very close friend attended a conference in Toronto for 3 days last week about Mining with 25.000 attendees. Now at least one person that was there has tested positive for Corona Virus. This is becoming a nightmare!
My 'kids' were due to fly to Mexico Monday, and were told the same thing, they are expected to self-isolate for 14 days. The schools here in the interior of BC, have their spring break, starting Monday, and they say 'at this time,' schools will be closed, for that time period. i guess I will be staying inside for a while...
My daughter was happy that her flight wasn't cancelled. she had to wear her mask because there was a guy in the seat in front of her coughing a lot and 2 other people in the same area. Now due to her trip here her husband has been asked to stay home for 14 days and her Boss called her and she is trying to find out if my daughter is allowed back at work or if she needs to stay home for 14 days. They only found one roll of toilet paper in the grocery store. My son works in tourism and right now he is busy driving all the tourists back to the Vancouver airport and picking up locals coming back home. However in a couple weeks he may not have his job for a while. I'm watching Portuguese TV Live and Spain and Portugal are going to have a meeting Today about protecting their borders. Many countries are closing them (their borders). For those who thought that Coronavirus was a joke and that China had invented it I hope you realize now the seriousness of the situation. Those who have already died from it weren't pretending to be sick.
Many tourists from Canada are leaving earlier. On the other hand some owners have decided to stay here one more month. I was surprised to see new tourists from Canada arriving here 2 days ago. I've been watching on Youtube Italians singing from their windows and balconies while on quarantine.
On today's edition, Mar. 17th, of qcostarica, it clearly states " Only Costa Ricans and legal residents (with DIMEX card) can enter the country and must submit to mandatory home isolation for 14 days."

Kohl I really hope that you are happy where you are now. Sometimes when I'm traveling in this beautiful country I almost feel guilty remembering that you are no longer here especially when I go to certain areas where I believe that you lived. You are such a precious gentleman and I wish you al the best,
Khol Today many Canadians are leaving earlier. Some were supposed to stay here for an extra month. The direct flights to Canada are almost over. Many are already traveling via Liberia - Atlanta - Toronto - Montreal. In the next 2 days the majority of Canadians in our complex will be gone except for 4 families in our complex who decided to stay until the last week of April.
I just got one more email from the Canadian Embassy in San Jose saying that WestJet will increase their flights for March 23, 24 and 25 from Liberia to Toronto. Even 2 of those families that were planning to stay here for one more month have changed their minds.
the US state department has dispatched 2 aircraft to bring home americans stranded in Guatemala - any American in costa rica should get home before all hell breaks loose over china - maybe your last chance to visit friends/family in US!! remember, us state department has advised all americans living overseas to get home ASAP - something bad is about to happen!!!
red china has unleashed on the world a devastation that is collapsing the economies of every nation on the face of the earth, bringing a horrible death to the populations of the earth - this is an act of WAR! the CHICOMS deserve to be reduced to a smoldering, radioactive cinder!! it is, in my opinion the point of no return - just listening to what our secretary of state said about his discussions with the Chinese diplomats leaves me with no question as to what is about to happen!!! PRAY TO GOD I AM WRONG!!!
If it is true that the American Government is calling all Americans to go back home, then I agree that maybe they plan to do something. Why would they call all Americans? The Canadian Government and all the others are not calling all their Citizens to go back home. Besides, for many of us home is where we live now.
philuth There are times in our lives when we have to look around and smell the coffee. Keeping rules doesn't serve the truth. We don't live in a Disneyland anymore. No one helps anyone by denying the reality that we are living in.
No - the later thread requests no political in posts in the title, not this one. Besides people are not giving opinions, they are sharing important info regarding our residency and some request to return to US! This information is worthy to share. China and US it is appearing to go to war is info. I don't watch news on TV, only internet news which this info is leading me to do now.
Ppbritton - I just looked on Internet news and saw nothing regarding your statements. Who are you to say we are going to war? Perhaps it will happen. Where did you get info that US expats are being called home? You are spreading fear - not facts. If you have FACTS - then give a reliable place to read. About had a heart attack until RE READ what you said. And when re-reading it sounded like your opinion.
Carol and PpBriton - I just googled what US Dept said - Urges not to travel overseas and return if possible. AND US citizens LIVING abroad to STAY where they are if possible and NOT cross international borders.
Thought these posts were supposed to be non-political. And, on top of ppbritton's post being political, it's based on misinformation. Sorry CR peeps. I'm out. Take your stupidity and peddle it elsewhere. I prefer to get my information from reputable sources.
Yesterday I heard Trump say that the spread of the Coronavirus is not the fault of the Asian American community. Three days ago or so he mentioned that he was friends with the Chinese President. I watch the news and read them all the time from different countries and I have never heard Trump acting mad at China for this virus. Everyday when get up (2 AM, 4 AM) I check the Costa Rica News, American News, Portuguese News and Canadian News. I'm glad that lindyluvsCR has explained here that America is not calling ALL Americans home. That would be very suspicious indeed.
OK, I'm reading CNN News right now but they have been blaming Trump since the first day he was elected so I don't know how much I can trust them. Yes, they are saying that the American Government is blaming China for a cover up about this virus.

Another thread? We already have so many. While reading CNN I was amazed to learn that China says that this virus started in the US in November and that it was carried by 2 people whom they thought they had the flu. Please, no more threads! Enough already Don't accuse us of talking politics. We are sharing what we are hearing from Trump and the media. In my case I'm hearing a lot too from other political leaders in other countries (Costa Rica, Canada and Portugal).
