Round Trip Ticket

New Topic Newest First

A lady I know is coming soon to CR tio live permanently and only purchased a one-way ticket from United Airlines. Upon purchase, nothing was said regarding requirement of round trip ticket.

Isn't a round trip ticket still required if you don't have residency?

Kohl

Yes, it is still a requirement, and without a return ticket she could be denied boarding.

Yes!!! I was in the USA on February 29, and purchased a one way ticket. When using the computer kiosk the check in stopped. An agent came by and asked me was this one way and I told here yes....she then asked to see my cedula. After that, she authorized the kiosk to continue.

That's BS, as I just flew United one way to CR on Feb 29, 2020, and you must prove you have a CR ID to get your boarding pass. Is this lady real? Or are you fishing for information.

lindyluvsCR
  3/15/2020 09:59 EST

I'm not fishing for info. This lady is supposedly coming today and trying to help her.

lindyluvsCR
  3/15/2020 10:16 EST

And I also know round trip is needed, but needed for her to confirm as she was not believing it.

That doesn't make sense "If" she bought the ticket, why would it be "supposedly ?" It should be a sure thing as she can send you a picture of the ticket, or you can confirm passenger manifest with the airline.

When you get to the airport you must have a return flight or CR ID. And it must be within 90 days.

lindyluvsCR
  3/15/2020 14:25 EST

She ended up getting a round trip ticket, thank heavens. Case closed.

princzz
  3/15/2020 16:29 EST

Mmm hmmmm. I don't believe it!!! What happened to her one way ticket?????

lindyluvsCR
  3/15/2020 17:32 EST

She said she just bought the RT and didn't do anything with the other. She didn't have time to fiddle with it. She really wants to move here, and afraid she couldn't possibly come if she waited with all that is going on. Maybe not the best choice, but why all the suspicions, Prinzz? What difference is it to you??

Folks, remember we live in CR where one person's "truth/experience" might be diametrically different from anothers. We need not be emotionally attached to our individual reality. Also, please leave USA politics out of the discussion unless it is absolutely germane.

For those who appear to be mocking me, she did arrive.

As usual Lindy, you were an angel to yet another person in need. I'm sure she is hugely grateful.

And as usual, Princzz seems to need a medication adjustment.

I hope all is well with the new friend you are trying to help.
Here people are leaving earlier and to be honest there comes a time every year when I desire not to have as many tourists here.
I miss the quietness and the raining season even though those who come here every year are very nice people.
I'm a bit tired of so many potlucks.
One day I hope to visit Grecia and also Heredia where our precious Pebbs live with her lovely dogs.
I had a dream about her the other night.
Lindy (Linda) I admire you for being able to take care of everything you needed to this last 4 months.
May the Lord bless you.
You are not alone!

Kohl
  3/19/2020 19:06 EST

Does she have to self isolate for 14 days?

lindyluvsCR
  3/19/2020 22:33 EST

Thank you, Pombinha. And no, I am never alone.

lindyluvsCR
  3/19/2020 23:04 EST

Kohl - she came before I heard about self-isolate. But she said both planes had few people in them and she was not sitting near anyone.

She had done little research, and had never been out of US. Also had some personal issues not tied up. And had not prepared and did not initially believe me when telling her about residency requirements. I did not hear her express any appreciation of Costa Rica whatsoever during her short stay.

She was overwhelmed with language barrier, bars on the windows, etc. I had found a place for her to stay near Gringos, and although she was met with friendliness and offers of help, she was unable to receive them.

On Wednesday morning, she decided to leave, and had a ticket in a few minutes and and boom she was gone. Ended up, something went wrong in her ticket process and spent 12 hours in the airport until 1:30 in the morning before she left.

Kohl
  3/20/2020 00:04 EST

At least she left, and you don't have to continue to worry about her...as I think it would be hard to 'help' her.

philruth

Our little country was not a good fit and it sure sounds like some personal issues/problems were in play.

You did all you could to help her.
Didn't she know that the official language in Costa Rica is Spanish?
If she didn't like it here it was better to go back home.

lindyluvsCR

I have never experienced culture shock here for a minute. She had it from the very first minute after arriving.

Many years ago after we immigrated to Canada, a family whom my sister knew in her previous town, where this family had lived in an impoverished neighborhood, decided to move to where a family member of theirs now lived.

On the way from Edmonton airport to a beautiful new house, they decided that this was not the place for them. They saved enough to return home within 2 months by having secured job...and the family to this day, said 'it was the stupidest thing they had ever done.'

And there wasn't even a language barrier...8-)

Hi Pebbs
Nice to hear from you.
I wish you a speedy recovery and please protect yourself as much as you can.
Your lovely dogs need their Mom.

lindyluvsCR
  3/26/2020 10:13 EST

Hey Pebbs! Glad you pulled through okay. You still make typos which gives me a good laugh which we all need.

Should have told us before you had it. Very few people have lots of laughs when in hospital having serious operation. That's Pebbs. Laughter is good like medicine. The two operations I had, I came out of anesthetic smiling.

So glad you are back. Years ago I used to watch Days of out Lives - after awhile I felt like I knew them. That's how I feel about you, Pombinha, and Kohl and ILuv CR and a couple others. If we knew each other in person, maybe we wouldn't like each other. LOL. I have my dog on my Facebook page. A lot cuter than me at 71 yrs. Instead of a mask, which I don't wear, most days I would rather put a bag over my head. Inside I still feel like I did at 38, but that old lady in the bathroom mirror every morning looks otherwise.
