Hello, thank you for taking the time to read my post. Also, thanks in advance for the help. I live near Brasilito. I had my plates confiscated. Is there someone out there who could email me and tell the the process and how I can get them back? Thanks

Actually, it depends on why they confiscated. The process is different between having the plates confiscated for lack of documentation and confiscation for a parking violation.. Could you ecplain what happened?

There is a Canadian where I live who drives tourists to the airport in the high season.
Some taxi drivers reported him and he had his plates confiscated.
It took a long time for him to have them back.

I drove on a restricted plate.

Well, my car plate ends in 0. And I have two days in a row that I can not drive. I returned to the country and wanted some groceries etc. Should have called a cab.

Yeah sounds like its a tough process. You should also be aware of where you park. Check your surroundings and make sure you're not blocking another vehicle in any way.

We've all slipped up PEBBS....easy fella!! It's probably more inconsiderate and harmful to not give clearance to these poor bus drivers who work like slaves doing an amazing job getting folks to Intel and Sykes so the foreign corps can keep kickin' it here not to mention laborers of every other type, doctors appts, schools, etc. When a driver can't pass a parked car it is a major hassle for these poor guys. Did you stop to think about that when you did it? How long did your vehicle inconvenience the driver?? So I think in retrospect sneaking your vehicle out to buy some milk at the local pulperia isn't such a biggy...what do ya think?? Let's try to take it a little easier on each other, for lord's sake, we're all in this together and nobody is above the rest.

BHW, this might be a litt le bit of a hassle during pandemic but this happened to me for a parking violation. It's no big deal but I'm not sure what the fine is for yours. I think for mine I was able to appeal it by writing a letter in spanish the Consevi explaining why they were unjustly punishing a bunch of us open market regulars who used the same space for over 2 years with no objections from officials and then one saturday they show up and take everyone's plates so I fought and won and didn't pay to get the plates back but it cost me anyway because I had to close my shop one day and because the system they use here is backward they only allow 26 people to retrieve their plates per day but don't use a number system...they make you wait for hours outside in line without sitting or protection from the elements and if at the end you happen to be #27...oops!....so sorry...you'll have to come back the next day...you know...the "guess and by golly" method.
I think your situation is similar to mine. First, check the Consevi website if you can and look for closures or updates. Maybe the system has changed and now you can do it the modern way through an appointment. If not, you'll have to ask a taxi driver which Cosevi has your plates and how much the fine is, Go there early in the morning like 6am because there'll be everybody arriving trying to be 1-26. Make sure you have photocopies of your passport and your driver's license. Sometimes they pull a fast one and send you home if you don't have two copies of each...a new sadistic twist to the routine. It may take two days so steel yourself. Take your Rubik's cube to play with in line for the wait is an eternity. I don't think I've missed anything except that I'm two days late telling you this, right? Oh, well...it's the thought that counts.

That's exactly right, we are in this together. My grandfather always told me, if yoy really want to be happy, help someone in need if you can. I certainly would be happy to help anyone in this area.

Curious what would happen to our car if neither my wife and I have a CR driver's license and drive our car? We figure as long as we leave the country before 90 days is up we are okay with our US license but now worried....how hard is it to get a CR license? Do you need to know Spanish?

scalnew

A Costa Rican Cedula I.D. is required which can only be obtained if one has legal residency. Costa Rican immigration laws are very strict. You can't even change a $20 dollar bill at the bank if your documentation is not perfect and every teller is required,to make a full passport scan before each transaction. Unfortunately for those of us working on our residencies and not required to leave every 90 days the tellers don't know that and so I can't drive my motorcycle nor do any banking. Unfortunate we foreigners don't have much in the way of advocacy here. A little common sense goes a long way.

I got my Costa Rica Driver's License when I was still on my Temporary Residency.
I had to go to a translator approved by Cosevi to have my Canadian Driver's License translated to Spanish.
I paid US$12,oo to her.
I also needed a medical exam (eyes exam).
They interviewed me at Cosevi and then they told me how much to deposit in their bank account.
There was a hotel in the area where we could make the deposit.
They took my photo and now I don't remember if they also took the fingerprints.
This was in Liberia.
However I heard that now is different.
People need to make an appointment.

I read your comment again.
First I read it wrong.
You mentioned a Costa Rica Cedula and somehow I read Costa Rica Citizenship.
Maybe it's the lack of sleep.

scalnew

Yes, I've done all of that, dictamen medico, translation, etc. but now they want a cedula or they won't do it. I don't know if that's a new regulation or if the guard is just giving me the business, ...or maybe they're misinformed or something. I don't think it's logical to have a senior grabbing buses when he can use his vehicle. I have a Tica wife and have a free condition to work here so I don't get it. Years ago I had Costa Rican car and motorcycle licenses. I still have them but they're expired.
