Can someone recommend a place to research cell phone service and equipment purchase in Costa Rica? Ive been a Google Fi customer for some years but they say they won't continue to provide me service now that I'm living in outside the US.

You really have to talk to locals in the area you will be living. For example Claro is terrible in the San Jose/Escazu area where as Movistar is amazing. the opposite might be true elsewhere, just like in the states.
