I have a couple of horses, and would like to find out what it would be like to manage their care in CR.
I'm aware of the seasons, and would like to know whether there's still grazing in the dry season, and wonder how readily available hay is to purchase if/when needed.

Do you know what a "Tope' is in CR?

Getting hay will depend on where you choose to live. We used to get ours in Liberia, so you may have to travel quite a distance.

You must make sure to have an lockable enclosure or stable for your horses at night or if you are not around, as it is quite common for horses to 'go missing.' We had a mare and foal stolen, but were lucky to get the foal back.

Where we lived, when a horse was transported, the drivers of the vehicle had to stop at the police station, where they would check for markings/brand on the horse to make sure of ownership. Our worker luckily had gone straight to the police station, and parked right behind the foal in a horse trailer. We never found the mare, though.

When horses go "missing" they can be butchered and the meat sold for human consumption.

For the most part 'Ticos' love their horses and treat them well.
