Ecuador - WHERE?????

Hi - I am an Australian woman looking to relocate - just spent 5 years in SE Asia. Ecuador keeps coming up on my radar. I'd like a laid back place to with - with option of interaction with expats - but not tooo touristy. I am semi retired and for the work I do local is not important. I want lifestyle - love swimming. Want to learn Spanish/Salsa. If I like it after say 12 months will invest - what are foreign ownership rules/visa easy ???? What about medical? I keep good health but ...love to hear from anyone living there - there experiences - ideas - especially local wise. Thankyou all so much in anticipation. L
