Extending visit to Ecuador beyond 90 days

My husband and I are traveling to Ecuador May 18 but arriving at 12:01 AM May 19. We are planning on applying for the 90 day extension which I have been researching and trying to get accurate information. There are posts on what is needed and when to apply but the actual Ecuador site is all in Spanish so my question is the 90 day mark hits right when we return from visiting the Galápagos Islands. We will be in Guayaquil on the 90the day August 16. So should we try to get the extension a little earlier while visiting San Clemente by going to Manta and applying? And exactly what do we need and what is the cost? We are from the USA. Thank in advance for the input and guidance. I am hoping people don’t feel they have to repeat this but it just isn’t clear.
