I will be down in Sept and wanted to go to a few other places, like Machu Pichu. It appears that from Cuenca to Cusco, the best I can do is a 16 hr flight. Is that just the way it is in S. Am? Can anyone recommend the best days of the week to make the trek?

The best times to travel are usually weekdays when the airline rates tend to be lower. Of course, avoid holidays - don't just think U.S. holidays but consult the calendar for the country you are visiting.

Flying from Cuenca to Cuzco is about 16 hours because of connecting flights. There's no direct flight.

Last time I went to Machu Picchu, I had to fly from Quito to Cuzco and it was about 2 1/2 - 3 hr flight direct.

Quito to Cusco can be done on a 5 hour flight. The problem is getting from cold (my opinion) Cuenca to anywhere. on a decent schedule, but new flights are supposedly in the works, so maybe it will get better. I can get from Manta to Cusco in 8 hours.

Hola Scooby Doo:
I got your PM. I tried to answer you back but couldn’t.
It seems as if you may have pm reception deactivated perhaps (?) either that, or I don’t know how to reply to a pm.
Anyway,
You can email me at
gyuris at Yahoo dot com.
