Moving to coastal Ecuador

I want to retire to coastal Ecuador, and want to make sure that I get all my ducks in a row.
I am a retired male of 67 – recently divorced from a 30 year marriage (no children), and previously married for 15 years to a Guatemalan woman (daughter Pilar & son Leon). I learned Spanish some 45 years ago and have been fluent ever since. My now adult children too are fluent.
My second marriage (no children) recently ended in divorce (to my complete surprise). Oh well. As the result of the now finalized divorce, I have a defined/fixed amount of money that I can couple with my monthly Social Security to provide a fairly comfortable retirement (particularly in a Latin American country).
Additionally, I hope to do some internet related business from wherever my retirement location might be. High-speed access will be important to me.
I was born in Utah (about 4,500 feet in elevation), and have lived about half of my life there. For the other half, I have lived in southern California (on the coast – Santa Barbara, Ventura, Port Hueneme, Camarillo). I am considering spending the final one third of my life in a Latin American country ... probably Ecuador, on the coast (I'm thinking Manta, Puerto Cayo, Salinas, Montanita – or perhaps even Loja).
I would VERY much like to get your input on coastal living in Ecuador. I expect to migrate there by myself, but I can foresee developing a long-term romantic relationship (and very possibly marriage) with an intelligent local woman. As noted, my children – Pilar (44) and Leon (39) are fluent in Spanish. I would look forward to having them eventually migrate to Ecuador.
At this point, I need to properly prepare for an exploratory trip that should last a few weeks. As noted, I think I would prefer to live on the west coast – somewhere between Manta and Salinas. I have been advised to fly into Guayaquil (I'm currently near LAX), then branch my exploration northward from there.
Since I don't yet have a passport, I plan to begin that process tomorrow morning.
Certainly ANY solid recommendations that you folks might offer to a serious investor in Ecuadorian living would be appreciated.
