Telling it like it is

. The sky is falling. Paro, coronavirus run for your life.
This is a selfish post for me. I would actually be happy if a bunch of gringo's would leave. Life was so much more enjoyable a decade ago when there were fewer of us here, polluting the country with our whining. Go home, because this will never be your home as it is for a few of us

Telling it like it is? Or how it is as you see it? First, I agree about the whining, that is all the internet has been about for the last ten years. There are plenty of Ugly Americans all over the world making the rest look bad. You rarely hear about the good things people are doing on the news, just the bad or sensational. As for the corona virus, the media will not tell you that the flu kills more people than the the corona virus has, that would not get the good little consumers back tomorrow night to see all the commercials for how they will live a better life if they take a pill for a disorder they never knew they had. If people just did the math they would see for themselves that the flu virus is far more deadly than the corona virus. Well it's time for me to stop whining and continue learning Spanish on youtube. And if a whiny democrat gets elected president this year, I'll see you sooner than I thought.

Is there a point to this rambling NIMBY or Go Back Where you Came From posting?

"I would actually be happy if a bunch of gringo's would leave. Life was so much more enjoyable a decade ago when there were fewer of YOU OTHER PEOPLE WHO CAME AFTER ME?"

(Because I'm smarter than you and arrived before you did so you don't deserve to be here)?

Stop, please.
You're embarrassing yourself.

DomW,

In the interest of telling it like it is, it is times like this that the myriad of misinformation being circulated is both confusing and dangerous. As to your comments, unfortunately you are very wrong, the latest data from the WHO states the following: Infected individuals 114,000, deaths 4000+. The average death rate 3.7%. The death rate from the flu as of latest data .7%. This virus is far more deadly than the flu. If it were as inconsequential as you state, then why would: (1) the WHO yesterday declare this a pandemic? This was never declared for the flu; (2) a president, who has up to now downplayed this disease, declare a 30 ban on all flights from Europe? There were never flight bans declared for the flu. (3) major events such as all NBA games, the Final 4, HIMSS Conference, etc. now be closed to all attendance? This never occurred with the flu. (4) corporations such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft, Facebook, etc. encouraging and in some cases mandating employees work from home. Again, this was never done with the flue. I could go on with more examples but hopefully you get the point, this is not the flu and does not resemble the flu and sadly, it is more deadly than the flu and unlike the flu, there is no natural immunity or vaccine at this time. Here in the US we are being proactive and see increasing numbers of people and companies limiting direct social interaction to mitigate the spread of this disease. Hopefully this proactive approach will limit the number of infections and damage it has done. Until then, the saying, "better safe than sorry", is becoming the motto of many.

DomW - Check your numbers.
"If people just did the math they would see for themselves that the flu virus is far more deadly than the corona virus."

The Mortality Rate for the Flu is close to 0.1%
For this new Covid-19 - with data availbale - it is between 2% and 3.4%.

So 20-fold to 35-fold more deadly.

Doctors and scientists are working on estimating the mortality rate of COVID-19, but at present, it is thought to be higher than that of most strains of the flu.

Sojo423: I feel your pain. I've found it better to step over the offensive pieces that litter the sidewalk or otherwise just ignore them; here, that would be the more blatant ignoramuses. Some of us might be saved or educated when you make the effort, others not so much.

In seeking a bottom line about this thing, I come back to the idea of ducking it at least until the first wave of infected overwhelms health services. If we then get it, the system will hopefully have the capacity to give us reasonable care. Italy has been quietly moving into triage mode. Not good.

The odds are actually better than even of surviving this thing, even if someone is a bit older, but that would be defined as a 50+% chance of survival, and as a case of 1 (or whatever) we personally cannot afford to RELY on the statistics.

Yes the flu does kill more than corona has SO FAR. But that is the thing. If listen to people who actually know what they are talking about, you know Dr.s / people with Phds who have studied and worked in the field for years, rather than people who have hunches, or believe in miracles, then the concern is the rate the corona virus spreads and the death rate or entertainment news trying to get eyes onto adverts, then you get a very different picture.

The fear with corona is the potential and the time to try and mitigate that is now (or most likely past) and that fear is near unanimous amongst professionals.

> And if a whiny democrat gets elected president this year, I'll see you sooner than I thought.

the irony of leaving a country with what would be a centre right government (by world wide standards) to live in a country that pushes a declared socialist revolution is quite ironic.

User001, ironic is right when you put it that way. From 'my' perspective it looks like America is swerving way too far to the left. Look at the numbers Mr. Sanders was getting in the polls. The fact that a Socialist (with three homes) has made it this far in America is warning enough for me. In my ignorance I thought it was ex-President Correa. Is the current administration socialist too? But is Socialism in Ecuador to help the people or make powerful people more powerful?

A couple observations:

DomW is either a sincere s***4brains dumby or a Troll pleasuring himself. In either case, I'd ignore him. Has he said anything worth responding to that might further the conversation or which might be useful to mull over on its own?

The other point is that new paragraphs for new ideas, or just to let your reader relax and keep their reading organized, goes a long ways.

Yes I do know the crap he has done and voting for him was the only way to keep Hillary out.

I know he declared bankruptcy too. "He and 'practically all' of his followers believe he's a very smart businessman", Who said that? CNN or MSNBC. I was never asked what I thought of him as a business man.

As for your dad's friends, did you ask why Trump did not pay them. In your hate for Trump you bring this up as if it is truth when he might have refused to pay them for poor work, cost over-runs, hundreds of things. They may not have had a chance in court because of their own doing. There are two sides to every story.

"But I'd be willing to bet you got all or most all of your news from FOX News". Wrong again. I learned all I know about Hillary and her husbands antics while I worked in and around Washington D.C. for forty years. Her email crimes were ignored, if anything had actually been truly investigated she would be serving time in Leavenworth. I did not watch Fox news until after the impeachment started. And I never thought I would sit down and watch C-SPAN on purpose. It was fun to watch lies getting bigger and bigger every-time Mr. Schiff repeated them.

As for Mr. Biden, he was being investigated before he even said he was running. Oh, CNN didn't tell you that.

And wow, she testified for eleven hours? More like lied for eleven hours. And the "Mueller investigation had dragged on far too long" and yet it uncovered no proof of any illegal actions or wrong doing.

I guess the questions you are referring to are the subpoenas he refused to answer? Last I heard, was that you go through the judicial system to get them. Something Schiff and friends failed to do and yet expected the President of the United States to obey.

"I don't remember" or "I don't recall.", that was Bill Clinton at his impeachment.

As for tests, do you think he can snap his fingers and poof tests appear. Or that we would ever make enough for every hypochondriac in California to take one?

So I told you why I voted for him and you can blame me and everyone else you disagree with for all your ignorance and woes.

As for being a troll, who trolled whom. Wait, I'm the one that you disagree with so that must make me a troll. But thank you for the new paragraph reminder, I worry about my spelling at the expense of formatting.

@domw

> It all depends on which numbers or stories one follows. Time will tell. No one person is going to be correct until it is over.

No it doesn't. If you follow the news (not entertainment news, not propaganda channels) it is unanimous. Lets not deny, in the modern age of 24x7 news coverage, Corona virus has increased viewing numbers, but the number of professionals speaking about it as serious, versus the people with no experience in healthcare, virus, pandemics is telling.
.

> Then you regurgitate what the liberal media tells you 'is truth as truth'.
Outside the US, where the news is hyper partisan and Fox news is no more than the propaganda arm of the administration, conservative news are all saying the same thing - it is serious.

Fox news is not allowed to broadcast is many countries, due to being "entertainment" and not factual news. The station was started to parrot Republican (not conservative) talking points. They are downplaying for politics due to the upcoming election.

Check conservative news stations in Europe, Canada. No other station is denying the "potential" seriousness of the issue. So to call it "liberal bias" is nonsense

> So let us get Biden as president, you know, the one who bragged about getting the Ukrainian prosecutor fired before he could show the corruption he and his son Hunter are involved in

I don't follow US politics closely, but I believe Biden got him fired, because he would NOT investigate corruption, INCLUDING not investigating the firm his son worked out.

But again, the irony of being so concerned about Bidens son, yet the blatant corruption of the children of the Trump administraton is many orders of magnitude higher. But that gets a pass?

>. Let's also ignore what Hillary's husband as President did in the Oval Office.

Irrelevant when discussing Hilary. But again, the irony of blaming Hilary because her husband had an affair. Hilary did nothing wrong. What about the affairs of the current President? A couple of weeks after his wife gave birth, is pretty low.

> But everything that President Trump has been 'accused' of doing is so much worse than what others HAVE DONE.

Maybe, time will tell. Maybe not. But above you have just gave as examples the exact same thing you are defending now.

>. What if he doesn't step down you all cry when his term is over, appoints himself king.

Yes such talk is quite silly I agree. But, Trump does often bring it up. I don't remember any other president making such suggestions.

> and all the other things you idiots spew when you have nothing rational or even truthful to add. Keep on drinking the Cool-Aid.

Yes a very true accusation that can be applied in equal measures to both sides. If you are blind to see the level of vitriol from the right as well. It seems to be a serious problem with US politics at the moment. But if one side is drinking the cool-aid, lets be honest, it is the Republicans on a scale much grander than the democrats (who also have their problems, but the right at the moment is moving into crazy territory.

I mean, how much cool aid must you drink to think a (self claimed) billionaire, who has never done anything for anyone except himself, with a string of bankruptcies, a history of not paying contractors, a self proclaimed playboy, with multiple divorces, vast history of affairs, who can barely string together sentence that would pass 9th grade English, who divides, divises and mocks all who don't bow down to him is going to be for the working person - then you are drowning in that cool-aid

err didn't Mueller say the exact opposite he did uncover actions that should be prosecuted, but was told the scope of the investigation was limited to not allow him to make those conclusions of a sitting president.

I have a feeling you didn't read the report, nor get an impartial review (yes, again both sides did have a partisan view of it, but impartial views are quite easy to find. And they are very much of the view, that illegal actions did happen.

Hey 001,

You took too much time and trouble to do what you did, while you could have said 3X as much, AND put more of a point on it. I appreciate your forbearance. Unfortunately, more perhaps should have been said, and it still wouldn't have done any good.

I could be wrong, and I hate to be pessimistic, but my inclination is to avoid wasting the breath or keystrokes when someone cannot at least make a viable case for their perspective.

Many of you have given very good reasons and points of view. The things I wrote are my thoughts and beliefs from what I have seen and heard which I will stand behind. I have been civil to everyone here and acknowledged that their views are just as valid as mine. I disagree with you and you disagree with me. But at no point did I use foul or abusive language towards anyone except towards the person that did. As far as Presidents Obama and Trump, I do not accept disrespect towards any President. I know that President Trump is not a popular President and more will come in the future as have in the past. I see from reading the responses here that as far as the Corona virus is concerned that no one person agrees to the severity of it. To think otherwise in my 'opinion' is trying to guess the future. I see Apple feels the worst has passed in China as they have announced the reopening of their stores there. I feel my only mistake is having an apposing viewpoint and speaking about it. So it is all my fault.

I've seen my share of "ugly Americans.". I lived in Arizona for many years and traveled all over Mexico. I saw first-hand the way some Americans were very arrogant and talked down to the locals, always acting superior because of the mere fact they were Americans and I was always embarrassed by their behavior. I'd be willing to bet that DomW is such a person. There is a story that I still laugh about to this day. My ex-wife and I were visiting Puerto Vallarta and we met a young couple from Utah who were on their honeymoon. They were both lamenting how disappointed they were that they couldn't get any good Mexican food in Puerto Vallarta like they could get in Taco Bell back in Utah. There are many Americans who travel to other countries and do nothing but complain about it not being like the United States. I think there are also quite a few ex-pats who do the same thing.

All: My sincere apologies for the "whiny Democrat" remark. I stand corrected. I was a little too inclusive. I'll rephrase it with "Far Left". I did not think it would cause a couple people to go off so badly. But that is beyond my control. I have appreciated everyone else's civil debate and I hope to continue other discussions in the future. If you are still annoyed at me, please reread my posts again, but without the anger my comment may have caused others. I see a few comments here where my comments were taken out of context or where it was implied 'what I was thinking'. And last I am also sorry for being so long winded. It is a hard habit to break after so many years.

Mr. Moore: Still at it? Wow, what a sad life you lead. But I would be happy to take an hour with lunch to help you see what a whiny ass you have been. Should I follow that with "B"? No, that would be impolite and stooping to your and Mr. Cogo's level.
You started off with "I would actually be happy if a bunch of gringo's would leave." do everyone a favor, you won't be the first. I'm not the only person here that thinks your original post is childish and bit of troll baiting.
"I don't make a habit of even asking folks about their politics".You are right, my bad.
"You seem to be the the perfect ugly American". Actually I'm not, But that is your opinion due to your inability to comprehend what I am saying. Thus my verbosity.
"I'm an American so I can go where ever." My comment of "As for going there, I am an American, so I can." Did not say anything about travel, you misinterpret. Read it again but this time read it as "Freedom of speech". We still have that for the time being in the US and on this forum.
"And I'm not a little whiny B like you." What could I possibly say to that.
"I didn't beat my chest", neither did I. Thats your flawed interpretation yet again.
"Also you should know that people here think of themselves as Americans". Again, your words not mine. Do you think they are anything less?

desertcogo:
From "whiny democrat" you assumed, yes, assumed I was outside the US and that President Trump is my "Cult Leader".
You stated he "Has left no stone unturned in his attempt to keep his tax returns from being released". That does not make any sense. Were you trying to say "hide his tax returns". He is required to turn over his tax returns when legally requested. It was the Manhattan D.A. that requested them but was over-turned in federal court.
"He's threatened to sue any institution that would release his grades". We all have the right to privacy and if someone released anything without someone's consent, They have every right to sue. People like to forget (like you) that others have rights too. President Obama did not release his birth certificate until three years into his administration. It was his right to withhold it. But Article Two clause five of the Constitution would be a good read.
"Did you do any research into him". Not much. As I stated I voted for him as the only sure way to stop Hillary Clinton from being elected President. And I would say that so did half the "Deplorables" in America. I also said I voted for President Obama, twice. I was hoping he would clean up the crap that is going on in DC.
"I'd be willing to bet you got all or most all of your news from FOX News". You would lose. Where I worked we had CNN on in our office everyday. I would joke "Just because Fox news says they are fair and balanced does make it true". You do not have to believe me, I don't care either way.
I am not going to go into why Biden is 'suddenly' the Democratic front runner when Bernie Sanders was so far ahead of him.
"I blame YOU and others like you", yes you do blame me and everyone else for all that you feel is wrong in the world.
"Colin Powell and Condoleezza Rice both used private email servers". You are absolutely right, they should go to prison.
"DomW started this entire thing with his "whiny Democrat" statement and I responded." Yes you did, with foul and abusive language. And let us not forget you blaming others for your own actions. Not what adults usually do.
Which brings me to my last quote of yours: "you people like to call us a 'snowflake". Actually that never came into my mind as I was rather impressed by most everyones ability to converse in a civil fashion and that I, unlike you, try not to apply labels. You on the other-hand have not. I leave you with: The term "snowflake generation" was one of Collins English Dictionary's 2016 words of the year. Collins defines the term as "the young adults of the 2010s, viewed as being less resilient and more prone to taking offence than previous generations". So until you can prove otherwise, what are we to think?
Now I can go on with this beautiful day and ignore you two gentlemen. It has been "like teaching a pig to sing. It wastes your time and annoys the pig."

DomW, you say whatever derogatory things you want about me and I couldn't care less. I will continue to believe you're a cult-follower. You refuse to say where you are at, Ecuador or the U.S.. for some unexplained reason. You say the Orange Cumstain is required to turn over his tax returns only if legally requested. Federal law of IRS Code section 6103(f) does require the Orange Cumstain's tax returns be given to Congress if they request it and they have. Steve Mnuchin, being the Orange Cumstain's good little butt-boy is the one stonewalling the release of them but he couldn't release the Biden's financial records fast enough when Republicans requested them. As for the Orange Cumstain's grades. He is entitled to privacy but considering his claim of being a "stable genius" and his enormous ego and narcissistic personality we can infer that if his grades were good he'd of had no problem releasing them himself. It's unimaginable to me that you could go from voting for Obama twice to voting for the Orange Cumstain. I wasn't a Hillary supporter but I knew what a horrible human being the Orange Cumstain was and how terrible he would be for the country so I easily voted for Hillary. He has an Obama complex and has been hell-bent on putting an end to everything Obama did. He gutted every government program Obama put in place to combat a crisis like the coronavirus and for what. Did he do it to save the taxpayers money?
He sure didn't care about that when he pushed through the tax cuts for rich people who didn't need more money and as a result he's ballooned the budget and the deficit. If he truly cared about saving taxpayer money he would cut back on his weekend golf trips to Mar-a-Lago and other Orange Cumstain properties. When Obama was in office Teabaggers and all Republicans were so concerned with the deficit but now that their cult-leader is ballooning the deficit they never even mention it any longer. If you were so against Hillary I would have had far more respect for you if you just sat home on election night. You and many other cult-members believe Hillary should be locked up but your party controls the Justice Dept. and I'm sure if they thought they could get a conviction they would have charged her. Meanwhile the same Republican Justice Dept. had no choice but bring charges against Flynn, Gates, Manafort, Stone and other associates. You say you voted for the Orange Cumstain because you thought he would clean up the "crap in Washington, D.C." when the complete opposite is true. During the House impeachment proceedings several subpoenas were issued that the White House ignored and flat-out refused to comply with. Now Sen. Ron Johnson is issuing subpoenas for an investigation into the Bidens and Burisma. If those subpoenas are ignored what do you think Republican lawmaker's response would be?
I'll tell you. They would all lose their sh*t if that occurred. Republican lawmakers all cried that the Ukraine whistleblower had no "first-hand knowledge" of the phone call but when Republican Senators had the chance to call people with first-hand knowledge they all shrunk into the corner. Republicans all said there was no "quid pro quo" until it was proven otherwise. Then their line became "yes there was quid pro quo but it's not an impeachable offense" or "it was quid pro quo but as president he had every right to do it." When they voted to acquit they said that the Orange Cumstain had learned his lesson but as we all know immediately after the Senate trial the Orange Cumstain went on his "vengeance" tirade as he enacted revenge against everyone who had spoken out against him. But you thought you were being the smart one in the room in thinking he would clean-up Washington, D.C. I'm going to stop here but I have a sh*tload of other things he's done that makes him unfit to be President.
