Pretty much any hostel or hotel will help you out, assuming they are still open and you plan to stay with them a or two when you return from your explorations.
The questions would seem to really be what your taste and budget are. You might want to reframe your question leading with those or perhaps other considerations .
Of course, it would be possible to find a place run by thieves who'd go through your stuff, but any place that's been in business for a while will be safe. Recognize as well, that your old clothes and personal items are unlikely to tempt a host to pilfer them, when compared to their reputation.

Do not leave valuables in room. Ask to have them put in a safe. Hopefully, they will have one.

Thanks.i started these questions along those lines...i live in northern canada and eaven here rooms get robbed and that is why i asked about safty.. Because when a person is out how do you make shure that the suitcases that have al your goods when your moving to Ecuador not only dull razors and dirty socks as the first person suggested but cameras and computers and more?It would be verry dissapointing if we had to stay and hang around room to make shure they will be there when we return.we do realize no country has ownership of all the crooks there are good and bad folks every where.only a fool would think otherwise.Lookig forward to our relocation see you all soon.

It seems you are focusing on the bad that can happen, and my experience is the opposite. I have lived in Ecuador on and off for over 10 yr. ,and spend a lot of time in Quito, and other cities and have never had a bad experience in hotels. I have even had a lost wallet replaced by someone that found it and called, so I would encourage you to look for the good, and it will. not be hard to find. I stay at El Arupo near Mariscal, and the Carolina Park, Av. Portugal area is good also. There are many hotels in the old central area, but I do not tend to go there often, and would rather stay out of central areas in big cities world wide if possible, unless you want to stay at an expensive well guarded place where bad things can still happen. Go and enjoy yourselves, and find a good hotel where you feel good about the proprietors, or try airbnb as some of the others have suggested. We use airbnb in many counties, but in Ecuador I tend to stay in hotels since I have found them safe, and many choices in the $25-50 /night range.
