Is it safe in the Canton of Muisne? (rural area)

I came across an opportunity to buy a piece of land in the Canton of Muisne. This is a very rural area and kind of remote.

Do not buy any land in a place you don't know.

Just don't. Go visit. Stay there, Get to know the area. THEN consider it

If you are concerned about safety, then a rural spot is usually more vulnerable than a city dwelling.

I think you don't live in Ecuador and may have based your comments on experiences in other countries. Certainly, you may be a bit more isolated in the country but, especially once you get to know your neighbors - much easier to do than in the city - you have an added layer of security.

Cities, like Guayaquil and Quito which have large transient populations and large areas of poverty, also have more crime - much of it drug-related - with street robbery and burglary being the most prevalent, along with a recent spate of narco-Traficante related murders.

I'm not saying there isn't criminal activity in the country or in the smaller cities but it is rarer and less frequent.

The trick for happy living in an isolated area is to make friends with your nearest neighbors and own a good watchdog.

I second User001's response. Think of it this way and assuming you've not been to this property and are unfamiliar with this area, would you normally buy a home with out walking through it, investigating the surrounding area, cities, etc. and schools (assuming children)? Probably not.
