I've lived in Indonesia for 2 years and there's a possibility that I will be moving to Cairo in August. How easy is it to find work as a teacher in Cairo? Also does anyone have contact details [e-mail or website] for expat organisations in Cairo[British, American or Australian]. Having had a less than organised start to life in Indonesia, I'd like to be more prepared this time!! Thanks

Hello...there are plenty of teaching opportunities, especially for a British certified teacher. Cairo American College (K-Primary) has a website....there is also the British International School (located in Zamelak, Cairo), Modern English School, Heliopolis American Intenational School and many more. I think all these should have websites. Teaching English as a second language is also available. Check out the British Council website, too...I have a friend that teachers English as a second language there. I work as an occupational therapist with disabled children...here under a year, so I am gradually learning about the schools here. My e-mail is [email protected]. I'll try and find you some more school contacts. Laura

Hey Carol.. My name is karim i'm an egyptian living in egypt and i have plenty of foreign friends who work as teachers. In fact my x gf she's teaching in one of the british schools here in cairo that is called the MES moder english school. There are plenty of those schools here in cairo .. as far as i know at least ten. I've heared some gossip that the best are the MES and the BISC .They pay good cash. Life here is nice in a way.. it's different thought so should take you some time to get along. i rarely check my account here so you can either call me if you want to on 0020105259730 or email me on [email protected] cheers.. karim

Hi there, just joined the site and read your message. I'm a brit married to an Egyptian living in Cairo,if I can help you with any info, please dont hesitate to contact me. my direct email is [email protected] or you can write on the site, i'll try to remember to check in! There are of course ups and downs but if you have contacts, life can be a lot easier as there arent so many organised guides that give you real life stories about Cairo unfortunately so you can fumble around in the dark for a long time before you get the info you need. I will try to help if I can... regards sharon.
