Pancakes

I've been stumped on just the kind of question I like to think I have all the answers to. Where can you find good american style pancakes in Paris? Truth be known, I haven't really looked. But I have been asked and now I"m starting to get a craving. In the past I've always just made them if I had to.

The fact is, I just make a lot of things now. I really do like french food and have noticed that recently, i voluntarily take foi gras without any prodding. Sometimes though I am driven to the edge by the subtlety of it all; I just want to be hit forcefully, unambiguously and unrelentingly by the flavor. So I've been doing a lot of cooking for myself.

pancakes are so easy, i don't see why you would want to pay $15 for them (and that's probably the minimum). I think having breakfast on my terrasse is much better than in a smoke-filled restaurant, or worse, on the poop-lined sidewalks.

I've just gone on a cookie-making spree and am quite impressed with myself. I made snickerdoodles, oatmeal raisin cookies, chocolate chip cookies, and peanut butter cookies(ok, i imported the jif). Now all of my colleagues say they understand why americans are fat (haha). I even wowed them with my rice crispy treats, although i had to settle for pink ones.

Well, I agree and I have made pancakes many times at my own place. I guess that's why it never occurred to me to go looking. But the question comes from a single male newcomer, not directly from me. He wanted to know where he could find a real american brunch. I know lots of brunch places, but have yet to find one with American pancakes.

I think I'm going to have to make them this weekend. All this talk is giving me a craving.

What I did in Cherbourg once was go to MacDonalds, order crepes with maple syrup and an egg and sausage sandwich. The was a very tasty pancake, sausage & eggs with a muffin on the side. It worked for me!! (g)
