Hi everyone :) In spetember I'm (hopefully) moving to Angers for a graduate program where I work for a French company, recieve a paycheck, and go to school (similar to a graduate assistanceship program in the US). My main question right now is what to pack...I mean, in general, what is the norm for business attire in France for women?? Thanks!

hello,

congratulations on your future assignment.

I think you need to specify which field you are in. As in the US, the dress code varies among the different business sectors. i'm in software engineering and all the people I work with wear jeans everyday. It's not as casual as in the US where my colleagues wore shorts in the summer, but it's close.

I suspect that in all sectors other than software engineering, the dress code is more demanding. Even where I work, the receptionists are always sharply dressed.

good luck.

Bonjour!
My first answer to anyone on the network; hope it helps. I have been living in Paris for over a 1 year and 1/2. Coincidentally, just spent last weekend in the Loire Valley, visiting Angers. It is a beautiful part of France. Lots to visit, ie. castles, vineyards, etc. I would suggest you pack (since you plan to leave in September) a mixture of your Fall wardrobe with minimal summer attire (just in case you have extended summer weather). If you are familiar with the weather in New England, I would refer to that climate. The people are very welcoming. As for your business attire, you are able to wear more skirt suits (I suggest) than pant suits. It would probably depend on your area of business though. Women tend to take the advantage of keeping their femininity and are proud of it in business (I feel confident to say that because I worked for 10 years in NYC and fully understand what I needed to wear according to the certain atmosphere in which I worked). Good luck and let me know if you need any further info.
Au revoir ...
