car insurance

I have live permanently in France for the past 13 years and so have car insurance with AXA (France) I have attained a 50% ‘no claims discount’.

In the year 2017-2018, I was unfortunate to require two replacement windscreens due simply to being in the wrong place at the wrong time (stones hitting the windscreen in the driver’s area). Each screen for my Mazda 3 is expensive due to the complexity of (cruise control) cameras behind it. I also hit a concrete slab while parking the car along a roadside in a village: neither my sensors nor myself had seen the low-lying slab, which subsequently damaged the car.

So, three claims in the one year, although I would have expected wins-screen claims not to have counted: the concrete slab incident was unfortunate, but my fault: I have had no other claims for years!

The result was that, as expected, my monthly premiums increased by 22%, but the excess jumped by a whopping 260% from 250€ to 900€.

My problem is that I appear to be at the mercy of AXA, as this year the premiums have increased by 7% and the excess remains unchanged. I have sent a reasonable query about all this to my Agency, but they have not had the courtesy to reply.

So my question is simply this: can anyone suggest a way out of this situation as my enquiries to other insurance companies is always the same; ‘sorry, 3 claims in more than 5 years, - so we can’t insure you’!

With thanks for any positive suggestions,
