San Pedro El Alto, Outside Antigua, Opinions?

Hi, I'm thinking of buying land about a mile South of Antigua in a development called San Pedro El Alto. Land in the city seemed to be between $125 and $200 per square vara and just a bit further out in San Pedro El Alto the cost is $50-65 per square vara. It is a gated community, but I'm not sure how good the guard is since he seems to let people in without checking ID's.

I really like Antigua, but have only spent a short time there. It seems like a fairly safe, cultured, interesting place.

Any opinions?

Thanks,
Steve

hi

i have lived in san pedro el alto many years - before it was 'gated'. and gated is a big misnomer. there's a guardhouse and 24 hr. guard. this was the 1st lotification ( r.e. development - 20 yrs. ago ) in the area around antigua - 2 miles from the central plaza. it was carved out of a coffee plantation and is still bordered by coffe on 2 sides with no walls. most likely the least secure of the 'gated' communities. if you need to feel 'protected' and guarded i do not recommend san pedro el alto.

I strongly suggest that you rent before you buy. Prices are all over the place in Antigua and other areas also. This will give you time to decide what the real values are,

hi there, I do not know about buying land here, but can tell ou that it is safe and very beautiful in Antigua and surronding villages too. But like most developing countries you have to be careful and not throw caution to the winds too fast.

beautiful place.
