When someone's 90 days are up, where do most go to be out of Guatamala and come back a couple of days later?

When someone's 90 days are up, most people get an extension through the office of MigraciĆ³n in Guatemala City. For a small charge (around $15 unless they've changed it), they will extend the visa another 90 days.

However, if you don't want an extension, but would rather renew the 90 days, you would have to leave the country and go to some place other than El Salvador, Honduras, or Nicaragua; those countries are part of the CA-4 and won't reset the visa for you (although they may stamp your passport in and out). The closest places are either Belize or Mexico.

Where do you live in Guatemala? If in Antigua, I can give you some information on extensions, etc.

When it's your first 90 days that are up you only need to go out for one day. I went to Belize by getting a bus to Puerto Barrios and a boat to Punta Gorda one afternoon then back the next day. Whole trip cost me 750Q. I later heard that you can go to Livingston and the immigration office there will stamp your passport as if you just arrived in from Belize. They only charge 100Q which is cheaper than the trip to Belize.

If you live in (or near) the capital it is very easy to get a 90 day extension at the immigration office in zone 4. This blog has my best advice on the process as of april 2018.

I am a first time traveller. When I first arrive by plane to Guatemala must I have an exit ticket out of the country? Or just that oneway in then exit to Belize and back after 90 days? thank you.
